Timeline

This existence has gone through many great changes as has this world. The list below if a vague outline of the major events. You will notice that the length of the ages becomes much smaller as it progresses, this is do to the rise of much shorter lived mortals in the world. When the gods ruled over the dominion of Miranda a passing year was but a blink of an eye to such immortal entities; however, 3000 years to a human is over 100 generations.

  • Term: 10 billion years

All things start somewhere and so must this existence. Only The Void existed before this and when this existence ends only The Void will be left. It does not matter when this happened or when it will end, only what comes between those two events. This is the age that gave birth to The Creator, Krynan, Titans, Celestial Dragons, gods, devils and demons. It saw the formation of each of the Divine Realms, Infernal Realms and Shadow Realms, and the many splintering planes that exist within them.

With the near destruction of the barrier dividing the outer and inner realms, the gods enter the Shadow Realms to once again take up the task they had been given by the Titans at the dawn of creation. Inside of the Shadow Realms they created new life upon a multitude of worlds to aid them in their task. When the gods entered the Shadow Realms it also drew in the devils, who corrupted the godly races and nearly destroyed the Shadow Realms before being driven off by the gods. The gods were able to drive the devils and their ilk back into the Infernal Realms, but had to leave the Shadow Realms themselves or risk the devils returning. They built Heavens' Gate which strengthened the barrier between the outer and inner realms so that neither god nor devil could ever fully manifest into the inner realms.

To aid them in their war, both gods and devils created creatures of this world. On Miranda these races were the Elves, Dwarves, Giants, Trolls, and many others.

When the gods returned to the Divine Realms those they left behind were left without direction. Many of them died during the first decades, but those that survived grew stronger. Once again the horns of war were sounded as the godly races not only turned on each other to survive, but in the two worst cases upon each other. Both the dwarves and elves turned upon themselves and nearly killed all of their kind. As the age grew to a close nearly all of the godly races were destroyed or greatly diminished by the loss of their patrons.

The first sentient beings born on Miranda called themselves the Sha’rek’ta although their progeny only know them as The Ancients. Born from the power of creation and the Shadow Realms, these beings learned to harness the power of the Empyrean Dragon Mir to create life. The power of creation was far to much for them to bear and so they fell into ruin leaving behind their creations, the ruins of their once great cities, and a greatly weakened barrier between the three realms. The Magi, humanoids they created to assist them, took control of Miranda when the Sha’rek’ta were no more.

A new age was heralded when the magi opened the Black Gates which flooded the world with power. Those touched by the power were forever changed. The creatures of this world now contained power that could challenge the gods. This power was used it to shape the world in their vision. This was a time when the sky was filled with Dragons and Griffons, great Leviathans and Kraken fought in the seas, and the land was contested by Minotaurs, Jinn, Redcaps, and Gorgons.

The world would have been lost into the chaos forever but for the actions of a single man who raised an army of those not corrupted by the power. They marched upon each of the gates and either destroyed or closed them, except for the seventh (|| || || |) gate, which they were never able to fully seal. Denied the power that sustained their life the various creatures either left this world (Jinn), hibernated (Leviathans), or fed on other creatures of power (Dragons) until none remained.

The magi that were not killed during the war to close the gates found themselves starved of the power they needed to survive. With no choice they drew as much of the power that remained upon the world and build themselves a sepulcher in which to entomb themselves.

The Dark Ages was a time of great struggle as everything fought to simply to survive. The world had been violently reshaped by the power of the gates and this age saw the land wracked by great hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes as the world restored itself. Giant clouds of ash blocked the sun from view and caused black rain to fall from the heavens poisoning the land and its waters. For those living during these bleak years it was a time of famine and pestilence where the strong survived and the weak starved.

As the natural disasters lessened, powerful warlords gathered armies to wrest control of the few resources remaining upon the world. The banners of war once again are raised upon the world.

It was a day unlike any other that trumpeted in the dawning of a new age. The ash clouds that covered the sky parted and sunlight again fell upon the world in all of its glory. The gods had returned to this world to save it from eternal darkness.

After nearly 9,000 years the power the gods brought to this world finally awoke the magi. Furious that the gods once again poisoned this world with their power, the magi opened one of the black gates and reinvigorated themselves. For 1,000 years they warred with the gods and a great host of angels, but when Mir showed signs of awakening the gods and magi made peace rather than risk complete destruction. The gods gave the magi the power to travel throughout this dominion and the magi accepted the gods oversight of this world.

Before the magi left this world they planted the seeds of new life. The magi used the last of the power of The Ancients to create life in their own image. The magi then extracted a promise from the elves to teach their greatest creation, humans, how to use power from the Shadow Realms safely. With that done, the magi left the world and a new Age of Men dawned upon the world.

Humans have asserted their dominance over the world of Miranda. Great human nations now span across the world driving other races to much smaller territories. As has occurred so many times in the past these human nations now go to war. Entire cultures are created, grow, and destroyed within the span of a few human generations. Some of these nations, like the Sorcerers Kingdom spanned several continents, but even that mighty kingdom fell and its people killed or enslaved by rising nations.
