Age of the Gods

Although referred to as the Age of the Gods by scholars, it was the arrival of the elves to this world that held the most importance. The elves were the first sapient species on Miranda. The end of this age was marked by the gods sealing the mortal plane from the Outer Realms.

Elven Era

The elven era begins with the arrival of Ellowyn upon this world. Ellowyn is a powerful faerie lady who was banished from the Fae Lands along with those who followed her. Rather than cease to exist in a land severed from the her homeland, Ellowyn created the Well of Life and intertwined the existence of the Fae Lands with the world of Miranda. The Faerie Queens were incensed, but could do nothing as leaving the Fae Lands was tantamount to surrendering their position to the other queens.

From this well Ellowyn was able to give her followers bodies that allowed them to live freely in this world. These fae would eventually become known as the True Elves. These elves spread throughout the land, spreading the power of the fae lands to every corner of the world. Sylvan forests, majestic mountains, crystal rivers, and other changes wrought by the elves completely remade the world. It was beauty that even the most skilled poet could never describe in words - and would never again exist upon the world.

Children of the Gods

The gods that stood watch over Mir looked down upon the physical prison of her heart in dismay. The elves were creatures of the Shadow Realms and remade the world in their image. Doing so brought the world closer to the Shadow Realms and would eventually dislodge the world from the mortal plane, this would allow Mir to regain her heart and the majority of her power; however they were forbidden from entering the world themselves.

Terra was the first to act as her body was the world itself and she long ago gave up her divinity. She used what power she had and breathed purpose into the world that had not yet be changed by the elves. She called these living creations dwarves and their purpose was to return the world to its true state - to turn back the changes of the elves. This beginning still dominates conflicts between the elves and dwarves as each servers opposing purposes.

In time other gods figured out how to create a small demiplane that would serve as a bridge between their world and the mortal plane. Species like the Jundari, Orcs, and Giants now strode upon the land, commanded the air, and dominated the seas. Given the sheer number of sapient species on the plane with wildly differing purposes it was only a matter of time before conflict erupted.

Heavens’ Storm

The truth behind the conflict was that when the gods created the demiplanes they used to reach into the world, they unknowingly allowed the devils to do the same. Rather than create their own living beings, the devils corrupted the true purpose of those already created. They used lies and deception to sharpen their differences and strengthen their own sense of superiority above all others. It has long been lost to history where it started, but each insists they were not the first - but war broke out among the godly races.

The gods looked down upon their creation in righteous anger. Those they created to save the world instead were tearing it apart. Instead of strengthening the prison by turning back the elves, Mir's heart was growing in power and responding to the power of Mir. Over the objections of Terra, the gods entered the world to damn their own creations, but unwittingly allowed the devils into the world. With a demonic army the world has never seen before, the devils poured into the world with a single desire to destroy the world and free Mir.

This was a war that the world has never seen before and never bore witness to again. The siren song of the devils not only tempted many of the godly races to their side, but several gods as well. Several times the devils came close to destroying the world, but each time the gods sacrificed what was needed to keep the world from crumbling. The ranks of the gods that once watched over this world dwindled as they were killed and their immortal power was trapped in the mortal plane.

In the end the gods emerged triumphant, but at a terrible cost. The prison was nearly destroyed and Terra did not have the power to fix the damage. Several gods merged with her, joining their power with hers, so that the world may be healed.

Elven Neutrality

Above all of this were the elves. They were not the creations of the gods and they saw through the lies of of the devils. Instead of choosing sides, they constructed large barriers around their land from the power of the Shadow Realm. Any god or devil that tried to destroy their barriers was utterly destroyed, with even their power lost forever. They could not protect the entire world without risking destroying the entire plane, but they shielded themselves.

Heavens' Gate

With the last of the devils on the world killed, the surviving gods left this world. They created a massive gate, named Heaven's Gate that would forever seal off this mortal plane from the Outer Realms. No more could any being that possessed either the Power of Creation or Un-life enter this plane. The gods left the care of their surviving children into the hands of Terra and those who joined with her. She would forever more guard the prison without her fellow gods intervening.
