Rukiya Shadowalker

Born Rukiya Ohn she took the name Rukiya Shadowalker when she joined the Circle of Marak. She became known only as the Mistress of Darkness, leaving behind all other names, when she joined the Shadow Walkers. Her bond with the Everdark was more complete than any of the others and removed any physical form that remained. The Everdark cradles her spirit to this world and she will survive as long as X'toltn survives.

With great effort she can give herself a look-alike form. She tries to make it appear as the local humans, but she is too far removed from understanding the intricacies and often gets the look wrong. This makes her an outcast even among those who travel in the tunnels of Miranda. So complete is her transformation she cannot venture out even on overcast nights with no moon.

Rukiya was only fourteen when the people of her village tied her to a raft and drug her out to sea. The village priest declared her possessed of an evil spirit and banished her from from any land touched by the sun. The reality was that she killed the man who stole and killed her family, but that man was a highly ranked official. She remembers very little of what happened next. She was thirsty and hungry, but the days passed and her raft was tossed by the waves.

Her raft was found by fishermen from the Sorcerers Kingdom. They pulled the exotic-looking girl into their boat and brought her back to their village. Two months later a plague swept through the village killing everyone except her. Those nearby villages that found her drove her into the woods rather than risk their own families.

Circle of Marak

She was found by Adaomache who saw her potential. She already was touched by the Everdark before ever reaching these shores. She joined the Circle of Marak and within a decade became one of the most powerful members aside from Adaomache. She was briefly Adoamache's lover, but it grew into more professionalism than a romance.

She was one of the only members of the Circle who chose not to rule over a region. She kept a house by the sea and stayed there most days. During the night she would commune with the other members. This gave her an outsider's perspective on the Circle itself and she was the first to warn Adoamache of the corruption building among them.

Shadow Walkers

She was the first of Adoamache's Shadow Walkers. She served in the same capacity even more Adoamache told the others of their existence. She killed those members who abused their power and destroyed those who ruled through corruption or blood. The Circle of Marak was meant to rule through fear of the unknown rather than any direct control. She eliminated who brought the activities of the Circle to the light.

In the final days she was the Shadow Walker who kept the others in check. She was the only one who knew all of the Shadow Walkers. Not even Adoamache knew of one she created herself as a dagger to his throat if he should prove treacherous. She was not sure if he created someone who held the hidden blade to her throat.

When the Sorcerers Kingdom collapsed she returned to her manor overlooking the sea. She defended that land from bandits and pirates for centuries, but as time passed she became weary. Even on dark nights she could no longer stay inside her own home as even the smallest light pained her. She returned the Dahgweta, the city sunk beneath the earth when Aegrin was killed and Techiuan buried. It was the height of her power and she settled into a city of her creation.

Legacy of Marak

During the Fountainhead arc of the Legacy of Marak campaign the Mistress of Darkness guided the PCs through the fallen city of Dahgweta in the hopes of opening the Tomb of Aegrin. The black Stone of Truth was buried there beyond her reach. The PCs recovered the stone and then traded it to her for safe passage out of her city. She offered them a deal if they would assist her, but they declined.
