Shadow Walkers

The Shadow Walkers was the name of the most powerful members of the Circle of Marak, those who received great power from X'toltn. They transcended death and became living shadows. They will live on as long as X'toltn remains in this world.

The Shadow Walkers are comprised only of the Living Shadow of X'toltn as cast by his darkness. This often manifests as a tattered cloak or rug in dark shades of gray. When speaking with other mortals they can project their voice into their target's consciousness as long as they have direct sight. When speaking with outsiders they need to speak as mortals.

The Circle of Marak had ruled the Sorcerers Kingdom from behind the throne for so long the nobility was all but puppets for them. As the Sorcerers Kingdom grew the Circle of Marak grew as well. This created factions within the circle that broke down along ideological and territorial lines. With Civil War on the horizon Adaomache the founding member of the Circle of Marak secretly gathered several like-minded members and built a Shadow behind the Shadow.

These became the Shadow Walkers and nobody in the Circle of Marak knew who was a Shadow Walker and who was not - not even other Shadow Walkers. Adaomache had granted each of his shadow walkers the ability to hide their presence from all but himself. They would gather as a group, but their appearance was that of a tattered cloak and their voice more thought than words - only Adaomache appeared as himself.

The Shadow Walkers had the authority to deal with any problems that threatened the kingdom in any way they felt necessary. They had permission to deal with any member of the Circle of Marak in any way they pleased, but they had to privately get his permission first. This kept them from secretly killing other Shadow Walkers. Given the relative differences in numbers it was unlikely they would directly clash.

Legacy of Marak

During the Fountainhead story arc of the Legacy of Marak campaign the PCs met with many current, and would-be, members of this group.
