Aegrin

Aegrin is considered one of the great elven heroes during the Classic Age. He was trained by swordmaster Glynralei, learned magic from Queen Mirasandoral of the fae, and learned scholarship from Zaor of the Golden Centaur Herd. His life was so extraordinary that even the basest truth about him seemed legendary.

For all the heroic acts he did in his life his death was a simple and sad ending. He was killed trying to aid a small tribe of humans and overthrow the first human empire. The empire had misused the gift of magic given to them by the elves and locked powers that threatened to destroy everything. Aegrin died in a field defending a small tribe the sorcerers had enslaved. Worse was the reaction of his followers who misunderstood what happened. They killed those humans believing they killed their hero.

For a life filled with honor, glory, and acts of great good and kindness - his death was the real tragedy.

Aegrin was born on a momentous night which signaled the heroic life he would lead. The Night of the Golden Star happens about every thirty-two years (32 years) when a bright golden-red star shines in the sky. Aegrin's hair reflected that star and looked as if spun from the purest gold. He left his family village young in the company of Elwin, his closest friend. Elwin had been accepted to train under Glynralei, a well-known master of the sword. As he was always hanging around during training sessions Glynralei allowed Aegrin to join them.

Glynralei

In less that eight (8) years Aegrin had reached the point where he surpassed his friend and was growing enough to challenge Glynralei; although he lost each bout. Glynralei officially took him as her apprentice when he was finally able to “pink” her in a practice bout. For the next fifteen years Aegrin and Elwin trained with Glynralei until she deemed both of them worthy enough to leave her apprenticeship. The friends separated vowing to met up again when both were great heroes - Aegrin never saw Elwin after that morning.

For thirty years (30 years) Aegrin traveled the world working to master the sword. He saved villages, defeated terrible monsters, and drank excessively. He was a young man with a natural talent for the blade and easy words on his lips. He lived, loved, and laughed wherever he found himself - never content to stay for long.

Fae Lands

In some small town he stayed with a single lover for two years. Unfortunately a previous love tracked him down and vowed vengeance for leaving her. She was not just anyone, but a Fae Lady. She drug his current love into the fae realms to exact her revenge. Aegrin followed on her heels, but became lost in the strange world. How much time passed he was not sure, but he slew his way through the fae lands until he found the jilted fae in the court of Queen Mirasandoral.

He defeated the Queen's knight in honorable combat and so won the freedom of his lover. The Queen was thrilled with the display of swordmanship and offered Aegrin a knighthood in her court. Aergin was smitten by the beauty of the Queen and welcomed the challenge. Over fifty (50) years would pass while he served and knight and later consort for the Queen. He faced numerous challenges from other Fae Lords, Ladies, and Knights.

While in court he learned the ways of the fae. Their magic, illusions, honor, obligations, manners, and way of twisting the truth. He was not as skilled at the subtle applications of honor, fealty, and obligations - but he loved their magic. The endless tricks, illusions, and shape-shifting drew him into it. His favorite was to turn himself into a large hunting dog and just run.

He eventually grew tired of the fae lands and longed to return home. The Queen set one final task for him before he left - he was to kill Yzettil, the Lord of the Rock Trolls. Yzettil had been lord of the trolls for over a thousand years and would not be like his other battles. The battle itself was titanic and is still spoken of excitedly in the fae courts. Aegrin was victorious although he lost his sword arm during the battle.

Sawgrass Plains

While the world may seem more dull have spending decades in the fae lands it was good to be grounded again. The loss of his sword arm was devastating. He could overcome it for a short time by using his fae magic to create and arm from his body, but it was never as good as his actual arm. A few years of wandering found him among the Golden Centaur Herd. He was apprenticed to Zaor, their lore master and keeper of the history.

Zaor was both wise and very old. He could not get around as well, his eyesight was poor, and someone had to hand-feed him. While his body was failing him - his mind and spirit were sharp. Zaor had helped guide three different headmen over his years. Aegrin was not happy with his duties, but he was not going to allow the old centaur to suffer. What he learned was not just an exercise in humility, but a re-centering of himself after so much time among the fae.

Under Zaor Aegrin was renewed. He re-learned swordmanship with his off-hand and to use his magic to compensate for his remaining failings. He was not just a swordsman or magician or fae consort. He was all of these and they were a balanced part of his life. When he left the centaurs he was nearly his equal in swordmanship at the height of his power.

Fountainhead

Aegrin arrived at the Utmarii Plateau seeking out rumors about the humans studying forbidden magic. He found that by some dark means they had learned to extend their lifetimes several generations. The core of this darkness was X'toltn and the Circle of Marak. X'toltn was not a human like the others but a Dark Vampire. He was using the humans in a large ritual to give him the power to challenge a god. X'toltn wanted to challenge the Earth god Techiuan for supremacy over this land.

Aegrin did battle with X'toltn in one form or another. Each time X'toltn thought he slew his nemesis it turned out to simply be fae trickery; likewise each defeat of X'toltn and Aegrin's hands was proven to be false. Near the end Aegrin freed The People from slavery and with them woke Techiuan from his slumber. Techiuan consented to assisting Aegrin and gave to him a holy cup of everlasting water. The water would weaken X'toltn and allow Aegrin to see through his illusions.

Aegrin was not able to kill X'toltn, but he did defeat him in his final battle. With the water from the cup he was able to bind X'toltn in the sky, but the cost was great. Many of The People died along with Aegrin. The dark vampire ensured that Aegrin would not survive their final battle.

In My Name

The final tragedy was that many elves that worshiped Aegrin as the one “true hero” came to this land and saw their hero dead. Enraged they killed The People before they could explain,
