Age of the Gods

  • Duration: 100 million years

Although referred to as the Age of the Gods by scholars, it was the arrival of the elves to this world that held the most importance. The elves were the first sapient species on Miranda. The end of this age was marked by the gods leaving the mortal plane.

This age is traditionally divided into three separate eras: The Elven Era, The Children of the Gods, and Heaven's Storm.

Elven Era

The elven era begins with the arrival of Ellowyn upon this world. Ellowyn is a powerful faerie lady who was banished from the Fae Lands along with those who followed her. Rather than cease to exist in a land severed from the her homeland, Ellowyn created the Well of Life and intertwined the existence of the Fae Lands with the world of Miranda. The Faerie Queens were incensed, but could do nothing as leaving the Fae Lands was tantamount to surrendering to the other queens.

From this well Ellowyn was able to give her followers bodies that allowed them to live freely in this world. These fae would eventually become known as the True Elves. These elves spread throughout the land, spreading the power of the fae lands to every corner of the world.

Children of the Gods

Long past the death of the last Sha’rek’ta the damage caused by their war once again would change the Shadow Realms. The barrier dividing the realms from each other, that was nearly destroyed by the Sha’rek’ta, once again began to weaken. The gods who have long been unable to do more than watch over the prisons of the Celestial Dragons by sending avatars into the Shadow Realms. As the barrier weakened the gods forced their way through and into the Shadow Realms.

Those gods who were watching over Mir arrived and found Miranda tearing her prison apart. The Black Gates created by the Sha’rek’ta were driven deep into Miranda and pulled out much of her power, but along with that it weakened the prison. If Miranda awoke it was possible that she would be able to wake her mother Mir. The children of the Sha’rek’ta had fallen and were left as little more than beasts fighting for their lives on a world bent on destroy itself.

It was actually not a good but Ellowyn, a powerful seelie lady, who first created a new race upon this world. She used spirits of the Shadow Realms and fashioned them bodies from Miranda. She set them to the task of healing this world and quieting the great Empyrean Dragon that resides beneath the earth. The other gods were quick to follow her direction and mortals of their own thus the Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and Jundari were fashioned in the image of the gods who created them.

The gods descended upon the world of Miranda and proceeded to repair the prison and stop her from waking up. During this time they re-shaped mountains, drained seas, and crumbled the land as they saw fit. They lived with their children and imbued them with power; however, the gods learned from those that came before them and did not give their children the power of the life of creation. Instead, they saw how the Sha’rek’ta and their children drew power from the Shadow Realms itself and shaped it by their will and the laws of this world. They taught this to their children believing that the power of this realm would have less disastrous resulted upon the world, thus giving magic to all of the children of the gods.

However because the gods brought the life of creation into this realm, so must the power of un-life make its way back as well. The barrier that divided the realms was weak enough for the gods to pass through, so it was weak enough for the devils as well. At first the devils bade their time, watching the gods create their children and teach them to bring forth their own power. The saw the gods slowly close the Black Gates and charge their children with guarding them, just as the titans charged the gods with guarding the prisons of the celestial dragons. The devils and their demonic cohort visited these guardians and slowly began to corrupt them.

When the gods became aware of the devils their anger was terrible to behold. They called upon the full extent of their power to drive the devils back into the Infernal Realms. What the gods were unaware of was that the devils had been corrupting not only their children, but other gods as well. A few of the gods resented the unending task of caring for the prisons and were willing to listen to the devils who promised them the power to finally destroy the Celestial Dragons. When the gods attempted to drive back the devils these corrupted gods and their children sided with the devils.

For thousands of years the war between the gods and devils raged in the heavens above Miranda. As both gods and devils fell the power from their spirits rained down upon the world, where it touched powerful beasts arose and threatened the land. The children of the gods also waged war with those filled with un-life, these new beasts, and still protected the Black Gates from being opened again. The world of Miranda, which had been healed from the damage caused by the Sha’rek’ta once again heaved and buckled under this rain of life and un-life.

The gods did drive the devils back into the Infernal Realms, but at a great cost. The barrier between the realms was falling apart again and if it should fall all of existence would be destroyed. To save this existence the gods did what the titans did and crafted Heavens' Gate to forever seal the three realms from each other. All of the gods returned to the Divine Realms and sealed the gate behind them. Vayne, a powerful god, was set to forever guard that gate and ensure that neither god or devil would ever cross into the Shadow Realms again.

The godly races upon Miranda were left without their creators who sheltered them in the storms and provided for them. Many of these races survived the centuries without their creators, but a few of ceased to exist within a few generations. Those that survived no longer lived in the same glory and richness they did under the gods, fact fact many of them were forced from their homelands by those touched by the un-life. While the outsiders who possessed un-life were forced from this world, they left their mark upon many of those races left behind.

The exception to this was the elves because Ellowyn was not a god, but a seelie lady and born in the Shadow Realms. She continued to guide her children and protect them, when necessary from the world itself. It was the elves, above all others, that healed the land and stopped Mir from shattering her prison and escaping.

During this age, the magi sought to not only protect their fellow humans, but preserve as much of their master's work as possible. The gods had either destroyed or taken as their own many of the powerful machines the Sha’rek’ta had built. When the gods first arrived upon this world the Magi approached them and sought their help to repair many of the Sha’rek’ta great machines. The gods cast the Magi aside and took control of the great machines themselves. The Magi attempted to stop the gods, but were quickly overpowered and forced to retreat from the world completely.
