Firescrag

North of the Feuwald lies the Dakarian Barony of Firescrag. The land is bordered on the south by the Kald River and the north by the Wendlestadt, a rocky outcropping that runs east to west. The barony is a good source of iron, nickel, and copper - but very little else.

The death of Baron Bachmann vonRichten has reverted the barony to control of the Queen. Their are wild rumors about that Baron vonRichten was actually a vampire or warlock who used these lands and wealth to plot against the crown. Queen Aurora has not found a knight willing to hold the barony to date.

The Feuwald were named as part of the Crown Holdings by Reiner II when he claimed the lands based upon the Medaille Treaty with the elves. In 453 AH Reiner IV created the Barony of Firescrag and granted the title to a hero of the realm, Bachmann vonRichten.

Baron vonRichten and the knights of Phoenix Hold fought several brief skirmishes over the Kald River. Unlike many such incidents between neighbors this was not fought between retainers, but typically directly between the members of phoenix_force and the Baron and his knights. This war eventually made its way to the Royal Palace in Dakar and a accusation against Cohen of spilling blood within the palace.

Queen Aurora forced a peace between the two sides, dismissing accusations that Baron Firescrag was a Dark Vampire who as been manipulating the War of the Sun Valley for his own benefit.

Phoenix Force was teetering of being stripped of their rank with Demonskeep fell. It is believed that Baron Firescrag and most of his knights died when it burned. Known only to the members of Phoenix Force, Baron Firescrag was a Dark Vampire and Demonskeep was the center of his power. He had turned his knights into vampires and intended to gain control of the Kingdom of Dakar in his hope of defeating Shadarri.

With no major trade roads going through Firescrag, goods are moved along the Kald River. The river is just deep enough to allow for passage of flat-bottomed rafts and the rivermen work to keep the deepest channel clear of debris.

Most of the wealth comes from the iron, nickle, and copper mines along the northern fifth of the barony. These mines were once independent wildcatters, but Baron vonRichten gained a royal decree granting him these lands in 457 AH. Before this the Barony was relatively poor, subsisting on the vast wealth Bachmann vonRichten gained before being granted a Barony.

Baron vonRichten was a staunch royalist and firm ally of Queen Aurora I. He was often found at court and very rarely stayed as a baronial manor in Firecrag, preferring to leave direct control of the land to his trusted shieldman Sir Verdendrin. It is believed as Sir Verdendrin died with Baron vonRichten as he has not been seen since Demonskeep was destroyed.

The barony has reverted to direct control of the crown and Queen Aurora I has not appointed a baron as yet.
