Jackie's Character

Brizanthimus is generally a pleasant, friendly person. His mind tends to wander and people often forget that he is actually a quite capable spellcaster, of a sort. Brizanthimus's magical energy is in the form of a magical lodestone. Magic is warped towards him much as iron is drawn to a magnet. Magic cast by other casters tend to be more difficult when he is near. He tends to move around a lot, and works as a story teller or minstrel to make his way. He has quite some skill in illusions, which is of great assistance in his performances. He shies away from drawing too much attention to himself, and seldom talks about his past that much.

In recent times, he has become fast friends with a foreigner named Xarth. The two have been traveling together for about eight months.

Briz is attracted to magic in much the same way. He can see the lines of magic around without using a spell. He is drawn to fixed magic and likes to work to unwind the strands.

Briz is of the bloodline of the Keystones of Corvis. They were the rulers of Corvis before the fall. Only certain members of the bloodline have the ability to purify and control the chaotic magic that seeps through the lands there. Not all of the family carry the talent, but the ones who do are marked as rulers.

When Llannoth the Lich King attacked, the family was scattered. Since then, the city has started to seep in corrupted magic, which is why the Lich King was drawn there. Llannoth was seeking to tap the tainted magic. To this day, the agents of the Lich King search for remnants of the family.

Briz himself was carried away as an infant, in the care of loyal family retainers. They moved him with them from village to village in the Free Cities. When he was four, a member of the Cult of Kaadan saw the magical potential in the boy. The cultists kidnapped him and brought him to their stronghold in the borderlands of Selcaria.

This is where he became called Brizanthamus. He was placed in the pool of acolytes, and put through the training that they gave all their members. Unfortunately, the magic they were teaching never worked right for him. He was often punished, as the masters felt he was doing it out of stubbornness. But, since the cult used the magic of the children to power their spells, they were loath to give up one with such strong potential. One of the masters suspected his lineage, and kept under close watch to see what use he could be.

Briz escaped them when he was sixteen. He has worked his way northward, trying to get out of the reach of his former keepers. In the four years, he’s learned to work as a traveling bard to make his way. He and Xarth found one another and have been traveling as a team for over six months now.

What he didn't know is that agents of Llannoth the Lich King have been on his trail. When he had been kidnapped by the cult, one of his guardians ran back to Corvis to contact one of the Guild of the Keepers. The other waited at the village and tried to turn up where he’d been taken. The Followers of the Skeletal Hand fount the village and razed it searching for the boy. Since no one knew where he'd been taken, the trail had become cold.

The Abbot of the cult, called the Hand of Kaadan, realized eventually what Briz might be. He was very sure to make sure that Briz neither advanced in the orders, nor was able to escape. The spells guarding the cult kept auguries at by. Neither the Lich King nor the Keepers could locate him. When Briz escaped the coven, he cast a large spell to force his pursuers back. The spell ended up pulling power from the Throne of Corvis itself, The Lich King was able to track where the spell had been cast.

The Followers of the Lich King found the cult’s stronghold and razed it searching for the boy. They captured various cultists, and were able to learn much about his appearance and the last name he had, Brizanthimus. Some of the cultists were sent back to become thralls of the lich king.
