Garrick

Garrick is a man that has a very special talent the comes alive when playing music, not just any music but music that he really believes in. His parents died when he was only 4 years old, but he was taken in by his uncle Onrie who never married (as no woman would have him) and so raised Garrick as a younger version of himself. Onrie was a man who lived for drinking, gambling, wenching, and story-telling. His love of various musical instruments let Garrick to discover himself.

Unlike Onrie, Garrick has settled down as an innkeeper with a wife and several children in the town of Feurschwert upon the lands of his former phoenix_force. Although he stopped adventuring with them years ago he still travels to Phoenix Hold several times a year to feast with them. Gul has been particularly interested in Aldona who has displayed a knack for both mischief and magic. Garrick still insists that she is too young to apprentice, but it is getting more difficult to deny his daughter's wishes each time they visit.

Garrick's parents both died from the plague when he was still only a child. Because so many of the village's children were left orphans, Garrick was given into the care of his uncle in the town of Uterbrok. Uncle Onrie, or Onnie as he preferred being called, was a ministrel in the town and was most well-respected for his strong retelling of the Adventures of Morrick. Well, Onnie loved putting Garrick in the show and it wasn't long before young Garrick was picking up many of the instruments Onnie had inside of his house. There was a different quality to his music that seemed to draw people into songs. It was the arrival of strange that set Garrick feet on a new path.

The stranger, a master wizard named Reinhold, informed Garrick that his gift was more than simply a unusual talent. Instead he held the spark of a magician and with enough training he could turn that spark into anything he wanted. Well Onnie wasn't exactly pleased with this turn of events, but he was glad that Garrick was going to see the world. He always wanted to leave the town himself, but could never work up the courage to leave his sisters. Onnie gave Garrick his present a few months early — a mandolin he had crafted himself. It was a beautiful instrument with a deep thrum and perfect pitch. With goodbyes said, Garrick left with Master Reinhold.

For four years, Garrick studied under Master Reinhold but his talent never really seemed to grow beyond the basic spells that any apprentice could master. Garrick began to get frustrated with Master Reinhold always telling him that he simply needed to break down the metal block that was holding him back and everything would fall into place. After one particularly loud exchange of voices, Garrick packed up his stuff and left his master's home. Now on the road with only his meager skills and having not worked as a ministrel for year Garrick considered going home to Uncle Onnie, but he knew that would never work as his Uncle was so proud of him seeing the world — instead he set out in the opposite direction to see where the road would take him.

In the years since, Garrick has made his way as a con-man, trickster, occasional ministral, and simple jack-of-trades. He has seen a great deal of the world, enough to know that he could never see it all. Still, that simple bite has only whet his appetite for more and as long as things keep going well he will hold unto the world until it throws him off. The only thing that bothers him is that he really only feels comfortable anymore inside of a city's walls. Although he was raised in a village and the town of Uterbrok wasn't large enough to worry with a true wall; there was an incident where he found himself lost in a fae wood and that experience still haunts him to this day.

Garrick's long blond hair is typically pulled back and held in place with leather knots, but during performance he lets it hang free. Soft blue eyes and boyish features have attracted his share of female admirers. However, it is his voice that most attracts people. Garrick still finds it easy to intermingle his magic with his playing and the combination can be wonderful to say the least.
