Gul

Gul is probably the most well-known gnome upon Miran - and that is truly saying something. Giant gnomes, those most regularly seen, are a mostly mentally un-balanced wanderers. Whether they wander because they feel the need or are chased out of civilized society is really a matter of little importance. Gul, unlike others of his kind, actually stayed in one place long enough to learn magic, make long-term traveling companions, and convince a King Reiner IV of the Kingdom of Dakar to portion off part of royal lands to create a gnome homeland (see Gulshome).

Any one of these things would be remarkable, that Gul did all of this and so much more is extraordinary. This has given him the title among the gnomes as the Traveling King for they have lands and must now have a king. Gul simply wants to wander the land with Silver and discover new things.

Gul was an apprentice to a wizard with several other young men for many years. His master encouraged him to focus on Alchemy, which Gul found fascinating. One fateful day, however, the building was destroyed to its foundation as a spell he cast went awry. His master and most of the students were slain by the blast. However, Gul's tough gnomish skin saved him with only minor damage, and he left the ruins of the keep in shame, always haunted by his mistake.

He wandered the land for many years, picking up bits of magic here and there. Alchemy wasn't widely known, so he learned other magicks instead. One day, he was in Selenus, and he heard the rumors about the King's heroes. Hoping to start to make up for his past, he joined the expedition.

Since that time, he made fast friends with an old priestess of Ellowyn in Karel; was possessed by a Magi, fell in love with a fairy woman named Silver, and made the King Reiner IV of Kingdom of Dakar give the gnomes a homeland. He created an item of great renoun called the Gem of the Gnomes, which had great illusionary powers. When his past came to haunt him, he and his friends traveled backwards in time to stop the evil Thaddius Irmanius (one of his fellow students). They thought that he'd died in that olden time, and left him buried there. Gul woke up alone a few days later, and traveled forward in time the slow way, avoiding his old comrades until after he'd supposedly died.

Appearance

Gul is a typical looking gnome. He stands just a hair over three feet tall, and his golden beard and hair contrast his deep green skin. His dark eyes hide depths of pain and compassion, and also the glimmer of mischief afoot.

Personality

Gul has a great heart. He is generous and modest, but often distracted by what other people would not notice, like a new type of bug on a windowsill. When he has a goal in mind, he will follow it to the end, and he suffers no fear of any sort. He has a great love for new things, and bears the gnomish trait of wanderlust.
