Although he has lived a life on the run from assassins dispatched by his aunt, Ælfric is possessed of a self-absurdness born from his parents. Both of his parents were strong and independently minded, taking what they needed and helping those with less. He has not yet grown into his compassion, instead he is filled with the single-mindedness and determination of the young. He was raised on stories about his birthright, trained in the blade by his retainers, and dreamed of the day he could shout to the world the name of his father.

Ælfric spent his early childhood on the run from assassins supposedly sent by his aunt, Aurora I. Rumors are that she arranged the death of his father Corwyn to secure the throne for herself. His mother first tried hiding in Krandryia among the smaller clans, but the reach of the Dakarian throne eventually found her. Regardless of his actual parentage assassins were quickly dispatched.

At twelve (12) years old his mother and her few remaining retainers reached Bornheim safely. It was a harrowing journey, but the port city was large enough for them to hide and yet still within the kingdom so that he could eventually claim his birthright. After years on the run his mother was not going to let Queen Aurora I bury them in an unmarked grave.
