Shadow Storms

A normal storm is a a severe weather disturbance in the environment or atmosphere. It is can be marked by strong winds (windstorm, cyclone), hail, thunder, lightning (thunderstorm), and precipitation (snowstorm or rainstorm). These form up where low-pressure is trapped by surrounding high-pressure systems.

A Shadow Storm, sometimes called a Magestorm, occurs with the same forces except as they exist in the Shadow Realms that flow through the world. Like the atmosphere, the power of the Shadow Realms ebbs and grows as it flows over this world. In the same manner as atmospheric Trade Winds so exist flows within the power.

Most Shadow Storms are harmless to those who connection to the Shadow Realms is tenuous. Those who connect themselves to the power (i.e. Magicians) or whose spirit or body were created by the Shadow Realms (i.e. Gnomes) a storm is never an gentle event. The effect of a storm on these people can be little more than a disruption in their lives to a torturous event. A strong enough storm can kill those just as lightning can strike someone dead.

The seven (7) loci that were created in balance with the world exist within harmony with each other. They create flows and counter-flows such that the power of the Shadow Realms can flow over the world harmlessly. When the gathering of True Elf formed the Sylvan Vales this flow was disrupted and occasionally re-directed creating eddies and turbulence. Although many of the Vales are weakened or destroyed, this has left a scar upon the world that continuously disrupts the flow of the Shadow Realms around the world.
