Dwarves and Elves

The dwarves and the elves where the first two sentient species on Miranda; although their progeny that live on the planet are far different from when they were created. What has not changed over the millions of years both species have lived on this planet is the animosity they have for each other. This animosity is not rooted in the wars they have fought, but instead is a product of their creation. Each race is not only long-lived, but were endowed by their creator with fundamental differences.

The first elves created were creatures of constant change and new beginnings. The dwarves call them flighty and soft-headed, but in reality this is just their nature of adaptation. When the elves move into an area the very nature of the land changes with them. As they are constantly in change, so must the land and those upon it must also be constantly in change. In time these changes reach a state of perfect harmony with each reacting to the other.

The first dwarves were sentient pieces of the world. Rocks, ore, wood, water, fire, and many others were the mind and heart of the dwarves. The elves found such creatures dull, inflexible, and always rooted in the past rather than seeing the future. The dwarves moved to preserve the world as it was and resist the efforts of the elves to change its nature. The land of the dwarves is where each thing is in its place and does what it was made to do so that all things can live according to its nature.

Ellowyn came to this world at the beginning of the time that scholars call the Age of the Gods; although she is a Faerie Queen and not a god. She found the Well of Life and created a new kind of faerie she called the Elves. The elves spread across the world and where they traveled everything was changed.

The Earthmother was awoken by the damage wrought by the elves upon the world and she created the dwarves to defend the world from the elves. The dwarves did not kill the elves, but instead built large obelisks upon the world to center their power and return the world to its original form.

This battle of change and conservation went on for millions of years with both the dwarves and elves eventually reaching a stable balancing point. The vast majority of animals and plants on Miranda originated during the upheaval caused by these two competing forces.

This all changed when the gods entered the world and with them came the un-life.
