Belenus should have lived a quiet life. Well, as quiet as a Krandryian life can be in a nation of clan wars with a landscape that makes you earn your livelihood. But such a life would be far too dull.

Instead while his childhood was spent as a expected of a normal young man, when he began training with the warriors of his clan strange things began to happen. It was nothing noticeable at first, but as he was pushed to his limits in both mind and body, odd things began happening around him. It wasn’t his fault, honestly. He was as stumped as everyone as to what was causing these minor incidents. A brush fire when he was in a heated argument, a bolt of lightning out of a blue sky when he and his friends were being chased by a pack of wolves, an opponent’s blade becoming stuck to his shield in the middle of a battle when he was disarmed of his sword. One commonality was always there, him. He didn’t do it, on purpose at least. Things were going to get out of hand before too long.

But there was one silver lining. His weapons were always had a calming effect on him. His teacher had always said he had a slightly more than healthy interest in sharp pointy things. They calmed him though. The wild and rampant magical effects seldom happened while he was armed. There were times while practicing his dual swordsmanship that he felt like he could almost reach out and touch what lay beneath the surface.

But there is a saying in Krandryian. Magic can be a powerful servant but a dangerous master. Belenus’ magic was certainly no servant. He needed help. He needed to learn to control what lay buried in him as easily as he controlled his swords. That wasn’t likely to happen in the remote regions of Krandryia. He needed to leave before he got someone he cared for hurt.

He left, as many young Krandryians are want to do, and made his way as a sell-sword, also as many young Krandryians do. He needed to find someone who could tell him why he was cursed in such a way, and perhaps someone to guide him in how to use what lay secret within him to his advantage on the battlefield.
