Followers of Techiuan

The Followers of Techiuan is a religion centered around Fountainhead that focuses on the worship of Techiuan, an Earth God.

Techiuan is the protector and hunter of the land. He is depicted riding a brown-red horse with black socks. He always carries with him a short one-handed sickle and a stone-chipped spear. During times of war a shield will be strapped the horse and his chest and arms adorned with paints.

He has often gone by the name Warden, Huntsman, or Loam among his followers.

The Followers of Techiuan know that he is but one of many gods, just as their are many stars in the sky, but the other gods are distant to the needs of the people. Techiuan came from the heavens to show The People how to hunt and grow crops. He taught them how to store food over the winter. Nothing of the earth should be wasted or the giving has been tainted.

The followers of Techiuan revere the soil and the hunt. Their practices are simplistic rather than ritualistic.

The Land

The first planting is always a high holiday, regardless of the day it falls upon. During the planting those working the fields will sing the songs of Techiuan to call upon a blessing of the earth. All followers must participate in the planting, from the lowliest peasant to the richest noble. Idle hands are the work of the Living Darkness.

The high blessing will take place on the longest summer day of the year. When the sun shines longer upon the land than any other time. The followers go to their fields and sprinkle blessed water upon their crops. The day is spent tending to their fields and flocks.

The birthing is a special ritual for the herder whose animals are nearing birth. A priest of Techiuan will visit the ranch and say a blessing over the animal for a strong and healthy offspring.

Harvest Festival does not take place until the fields have been cleared and the food put into storage. All in the land participate in the festival. It is a good time for marriages and marriage announcements. Each follower is to take something of theirs and plant it into the fallow fields in thanks for the crops that year.

The Hunt

Before a hunting party embarks they are to take fresh mud and smear it on their boots with their bare hands. This signifies the bond between the earth and the animals they will hunt. All will return to the earth and the earth must be the start of the hunt. The animals of the hunt are those who live off the land.

When a hunting party is successful a small measure that can be held in two hands is given back to the earth. A hole is dug and the measure put into the hole and buried. This will feed the smallest burrowers of the land, who in turn feed the larger.

Legacy of Marak

Before the start of the Legacy of Marak campaign the Cup Everflowing, a holy artifact of Techiuan, was found by Father Karl in the ruins of the city of Dahgweta deep beneath Fountainhead. With this artifact in hand he was able to open the doors of the Red Temple of Techiuan. The waters purified him of the mindlessness of the rain that keeps most of the city's population passive.

Inside the temple Father Karl found scrolls and tablets concerning the worship of Techiuan by the people who built the temple. He made several more expeditions to the tunnels below the city and found more history. With this fragmented record the created the Followers of Techiuan. For those who followed him he let the drink from the holy cup and eat food washed and raised in ground blessed by the cup's waters. Those who joined him also did not suffer from the mindlessness.

During the Fountainhead arc the cup was shattered during a struggle between Father Karl and Quilate and Keribrar - nearly killing Father Karl. Subsequently Keribrar reforged the cup which renewed interest in the following. A large grounds at the base of the shelf was protected by a palisade where the worships would be protected. It is a peaceful community of farmers, herders, craftsmen, and laborers who gather around and listen to the good Father.
