Miranda

Miranda is the second planet in the solar system, measuring 7,568.52 miles in diameter (circumference is 28,000 miles at the equator) and orbiting approximately 85 million miles from the sun. It take 364 days to complete a full orbit around the sun and 26 hours for a complete rotation about its axis, which has a 22.75-degree tilt.

Approximately 72% of the world is covered in water and over 90% of this water is held in the vast oceans. The deepest point in the ocean is the Nubrus Trench which is 7.3 miles deep and extends for over 360 miles in length.

There are five continents spread across the world: Pun-ki, Freija, Ranur, Auganius, and Dietius. Heavenly Bodies Moons

There are two moons that encircle Miranda; although one is so dark and small that it can only be seen with the help of some object or magic. Ley

The moon Ley is around 2,300 miles in diameter and named after the titan Leylia in the northern mythos who was believed to have created magick upon the world of Miranda. Ley rotates about its axis, approximately 225,000 miles from Miranda, once every 28.13 days and orbits Miranda every 28 days. Day 1 is always a full moon and Day 14 is the new moon, with a steady waxing and waning cycle between. The same features can be seen on the moon every 13 complete cycles — this has led to most calendars being based upon the cycle of the moon instead of the sun.

The moon is often thought to influence the flow of magick across the world, with the new moon believed to be its highest peak and the full moon its lowest ebb. The very rare occurance when Lecia passes between Ley can be found to have special significance to just about every culture upon the world. Lecia

This small, only 1,050 miles in diameter, moon rotates on nearly the opposite axis, and a closer orbit, as its sister Leylia. Named after the Irrishite cat goddess of the night, this moon is invisible to anyone without special equipment or magic because this moon reflects almost no light. Its orbit is about 148,000 miles above Miranda where it almost 3642 day orbit gives it a rotation of just over ten years — its rotation is equal to its orbit so that the same side is always facing the surface of Miranda.

Because this moon is so elusive it has become as much myth upon the world as accepted fact. Those rare occurances when it does make its presense known are thought to be very significant times. Calendar

Although the Ancients are long dead; the current calendar in common use was created by the Irillian Empire based upon the calendar they created. It follows the lunar cycle putting the first of every month at the full moon; this gives thirteen months to the year. There 26 hours in a day and seven days in a week.

There are other cultures that may use wildly different calendars, but the largest selection of the population follow the calendar set in stone by the ancients who took a great deal of interest in the heavens. Months

Events

The summer solstice happens during the month of Ellu, typically within the first week after the full moon. While the winter happens during the month of Ral just before the new moon. The autumn and spring equinoxes fall sometime during the month of Aldien and Tilion respectively.
