The Broken Shield Clan is a dwarf clan that settled into the eastern valleys of the Iron Mountains. The Broken Shield Clanhold that spans the Heron River is the center of their clan.

The origins of the clan began in Y1280 AE when the orcs of the Garrogh Tribe attacked the dwarven villages along the Heron River. For nearly a decade the dwarves and orcs fought and died over the river until Raganar, Clan Chief of the Garrogh, was killed; Ittir Shieldbear, the dwarf that killed him, died the next day of wounds suffered during the battle. The orcs retreated and the dwarves built a hero's pyre for Ittir. The surviving families came together and joined as one clan named Broken Shields for the many shields that littered the ground.
