Guild of the Keepers

The Guild of the Keepers is an old order that protect and serve the interests of Corvis. They know the truth of the lineage of the Keystones of Corvis. In various times, they have served as both keepers of the history of the nation, as well as protectors of the lineage.

History

During the ages of the first king of Corvis, Renauld the Golden, the Guild of the Keepers was formed under the leadership of the king's cousin and friend, Treau the Younger. Six others, chosen from Renauld's most trusted friend, made up the core of the Guild.

While not exactly a secret order, it was not well-known to the general populace. New members were chosen from either the families of those who had served before, or from the learned schools that stood out on merit.

Over time, the Guild kept the rolls of the lineage, and tracked those born of the royal line that had, and those who had not the gift of the Keystone. They also searched the country for those born with the spark of a Keystone that were not recorded in their records. A master Keeper could often predict the likelihood of any new birth carrying the spark long before the babe had arrived into the world.

Eventually, the roles became more as protectors as those of the lineage fought between each other, or outsiders sought to destroy the rulers of Corvis. The bodyguard Keepers became known as the Blades of the Guild and were regarded as very competent protectors.

They were unprepared for the fury when the Llannoth the Lich King attacked. Many of the Guild died protecting the rulers, but many more fled Corvis, taking those of the bloodlines with them. The Gallery of the Kings where the lineages was kept was set fire and destroyed so that the Llannoth could not find those of the royal house.

Duties

Before the fall of Corvis, the duties of the Guild was primarily that of archivists. They recorded events in the country, and made themselves available should the King or his advisers need any information from there.

They were also the callers of the next king. When one king died, his successor was not always of his direct issue. The crown would pass to the child with the strongest potential to sit on the throne. Those who were too weak with the gift were often killed by the strain that the magic would put upon them.

Blades

The Blades served as a separate order inside the Guild. They were chosen less for their minds, but more for their loyalty to the crown and their abilities in a fight. At the height of the order, there were perhaps sixty who served as Blades throughout the kingdom.

After the Fall of Corvis

After Corvis fell, Keepers fled carrying family members with them for safekeeping. They migrated to other countries to hide their charges. Llannoth has been seeking the bloodline of Renauld since. It is unknown if he has found any, or how many survive to the current day.
