Tobias Kuhn

Sir Tobias is the unrecognized bastard son of Sir Wernherus of Grohn and Nell, the baker's daughter. When his mother died, Sir Wernherus gave him a horse, sword, shield, and a small bit of coin - then told to get out of the village. Tobias gathered his remaining belongings and followed the trade roads west. He spent some time as a mercenary before he finally made enough money to return east. Several years on the edge of King Reiner IV's court eventually gained him a frontier barony along the Bornheim trade road. He currently serves as the Baron of Ulrichstein.

At the behest of his wife, Sir Wernherus dismissed Nell from the manor before the Tobias was born.

During the Summer of 426 Tobias was hired by the Reeve of a mining camp to raise a mercenary company to drive out some goblins that had set up encampments nearby. By 428, with the help of a local hunter named Veit Kaufmann, he had managed to set fire to the goblin encampments and kill any not quick enough to run. Still, the Summer of 429 was difficult as the goblins attacked into the forest in increasing strength.

Tobias and his men planned to go into the Iron Mountains and put the entire tribe to the sword. As soon as ground was solid enough in 430 the company marched into the Iron Mountains. For nearly two years they fought the goblin tribes, and by Winter 431 he was able to march out of the mountains victorious. Tobias staying it the camp for another year to ensure the goblins would not come back, but finally in 432 him and a few of the mercenaries who pledged loyalty to him left the mining camp.
