Kinliff was born into and bred for a higher serpentine holy society. His

natural selection and ferociuosness won the quick respect of fellow priests. Kinliff was fully inclined and did deal with the backstabbing ways of the society, rising to an incredible rank. Finally, with seeming all compassion driven from him, he rose to the position of high priest of his nest of the serpents. Kinliff's predecessor was sacrificed to the serpent gods by Kinliff himself in a most unholy ceremony.

The life of luxury was not an unknown commodity to Kinliff. But he mostly

chose a path away from luxury, becoming a harsh and successful master of the snake. A year passed with successful expansion of the cult, until one event transpired that would change the high priest forever.

There existed no love in Kinliff's life, his veins were said to colder than

ice. The idea was such a repulsion to him that any compassion showed at all could mean death to the demanding serpent gods. Everyone feared Kinliff's rages. The cult became a bed for hatred and merciless aggression. Then, one day, in a ceremony to the great serpent, the sacrifice required for the celebration was interrupted. As Kinliff was performing the execution of some naive, young, innocent woman, a man hiding in the gathered crowd, leapt upon the altar to receive the blade for his love and died in her stead. The enraged snake followers poured onto the altar, while a stunned Kinliff reeled from this transpirence, and ripped the two lovers apart and into pieces. Kinliff was beside himself with amazement at why someone would selflessly give their life for another. His entire life spoke out against this notion, leaving him temporarily helpless against a flood of confusion.

Kinliff was torn between his way of life and the discoverance that there

might be something out there that he might actually care for more than his own life. Feeling an emptiness inside, the thought of care devoid of his in the past, made him long more for something to care for. The cult, from his own ashamed handiwork, was not the place to find a fill for the void growing rapidly. The cult, also, would not understand or let him leave willingly. With a frighteningly new fear of the outside world, Kinliff left the serpent society. He could feel the weight of responsibility to the snake gods replaced by their enmity and hatred.

His journeys in the new world were dogged at every step by the members of

the serpent gods' followers. Even so, when he came upon one poor soul that was harassed and assailed by cutthroats, the void in his heart was slightly filled when he helped to stop the villainous acts. He sought again to help another to see if this was merely a coincidence. Again, his heart was lightened when he thwarted a petty burglar who was holding a family at knifepoint, the same type of weapon he had previously used to kill people. An unknown feeling to him, sadness, flowed through him at the reoccuring thought about his dark past. The only relent was when he actively pursued deeds that he could only hope were good. With this thought in mind and soul, and with a new hope to carry in his breast, he sought to associate himself with those who were known to be heroic and doers of beyond good deeds. Kinliff set out to find his way to and hopefully be accepted by the people known as “The Phoenix Force”.
