Hafwyn

Hafwyn is strange for an elf. She very quiet, and much like a caged wolf when in busy areas. She has long, unkempt gray hair and wears very primitive clothes. She has a tendency to talk to herself softly, in a language few can understand.

She moves through the wild with nearly unnatural grace, even for an elf. In the wild, she is more relaxed and more likely to open up a little bit. She is an excellent tracker, and will fight with wild abandon for someone she considers important. She also senses spirits to some degree, and will generally try to work towards easing troubling aspects around her.

The thing that brought her out of her long madness was that the spark of her lover, Traoleigh was reborn into a human man. She could sense his spirit on the mortal plan, and woke to search for him. Traoleigh was now a human named Megarius.

What is most confusing is that she shies away from other elves. She will watch them, but very seldom will she actually speak to them. As a dark elf, she is hunted by any true elves if they recognize her. The warrior spirit can cause her to become a berserk in battle.

Madness is never far from her. The warrior spirit requires constant discipline to keep under check. Most of the first generation of dark elves have succumbed to madness and were never able to recover.

At one time, one of her companions was able to understand her mutterings while dreaming. “I don't like it Dionadyll, we're packed in too close. I don't like it. Why do we need to meet here? Its getting dark. Dionadyll, those are arrows! Run! Hurry! This way, there were trees this way! Keep your footing! No! We can make it there! Dionadyll? Dionadyll! They did it to us! They did it!”

Dionadyll was one of her friends that died by her side when the elves turned on the warriors. She is still haunted by nightmares of that attack.

Hafwyn is actually quite an old creature. She grew up in Ellendar during the time when the Queen was still with them and her court lived in the elven city.

Hafwyn was married to an artisan named Traoleigh. Traoleigh worked with fine metals and she raised some of the most prized riding stags known in the area.

Then the dark times came. The orcs turned against the elves. Traoleigh was slain in one of the attacks. Anguished, she answered the call of Mardac when he called for volunteers. Three thousand elves were transformed to take on the warrior spirit and fought back the orcs. The sacrifice was a success, but the original elves were not comfortable with their warrior companions. The spirit had changed them, it had made them rougher, more violent. Unbeknownst to Mardac, it was decided to kill off the tainted creatures. The warriors were summoned to a valley, where they were bottled in and death was rained in upon them, with both arrow and spell. The Maiden Archers led in the slaughter. Many of these changed elves were killed that day by their own kin.

Hafwyn was one of the survivors. Her mind shattered, she fled south into the wilderness. Time passed. She was an ageless mad thing wandering through the swamps. Eventually the Pah'Shar settled into this land, which later humans would call Pah. The Pah'Shar had legends about the mad creature that hunted them in the dark, Kzyri. Kzyri was a creature of the night, a demon to terrify children. Many stories were told about her, and it is unclear where the truth in the telling was.

Ages passed. One day she awoke to some semblance of her mind.
