Esandeor

Esandeor grew up in the Kingdom of Aquileia - actually he was born and and lived on the land before it was claimed by the human kingdom. Eventually he came into conflict with the human “laws” and “restrictions”, which meant that Esandeor was placed in jail for stealing food and money meant for the royal family and injuring a few of the royal servants. He was given the chance to work off his crime by joining the King's Army. He took up the offer and was the only elf among the soldiery, which made things very difficult for him.

He lived through countless skirmishes and proved himself an able swordsmen. Commander Taloin saw potential and gave him advanced military and weapons training, which caused significant anger and protest through the ranks. After the death of Taloin, Esandeor sees many years go by without further recognition or promotion inside the army despite showing great skill. Racism and distrust of elves keeps him regulated to the lower ranks until he meets Prince Lethos. Ignoring his closest advisers, the Prince placed Esandeor under his personal command and saw to his further education in the military arts.

Finding the first human in years since Taloin to treat him as more than a dog, Esandeor dedicated his life to the young Prince. A bloody civil war broke out leaving most of the royal family dead and Prince Lethos crowed as the new king. Esandeor had fought bravely and saved the young prince's life during the civil war so it was no surprise when he named him Captain of his newly formed King's Guard. In special thanks the king had a sword fashioned for Esandeor and gifted it to him when he was official raised to his new rank.

His rapid rise in a devastated court did not squelch the criticism and hatred of those around him. Instead of strictly limited to his skills, it was now the rumor and innuendo of the court. King Lethos could no longer shield his friend from these attacks without upsetting the delicate balance of the court. In private he heaped praise upon his Captain, but in public he became simply is bodyguard.

The solace during these years as the other members of the King's Guard. They knew that Esandeor was favored by the king and they grew to respect him in time as well. They saw past his heritage to a man that see simply a warrior that would give of his blood and life for the king.

Finally, time passes for the humans far quicker than for elves - so as his friends in the Guard were laid to rest Esandeor began to retreat from his social obligations. When King Lethos finally died of old age, Esandeor retired from his commission. He took to the road to finally see what other people lived in this world. He had many years before him and wanted to live them well - find a new sense of belonging in his life.

The sword: Longsword, specially made for Esandeor. If you go by LOA rules, the Weapon of Destiny gives a +1 damage for craftmanship and one more improvement explained in page 141. If you allow this stunt, does that and the aspect cover the cost. If so I'll read more on the improvement and give an idea what i'm thinking there.
