Knights Hall Tavern

This fine establishment, the Knights Hall Tavern, is frequented by those seeking an audience with the Baron of Ulrichstein. Serving the best food and drink, much of it purchased from the Baron's larder (or so their reputation speaks) it is well-known that those servants capable of moving the levers of the court frequent the tavern. The food and drink is not the best in town, but the access and accommodations more than make up for any shortfall.

Lamar Williams, long a friend of Sir Tobias Kuhn, built the tavern after arriving with in town. The baron forgave many of the taxes for the first few years to help his friend establish his business. This initial gratitude is the source of the reputation, plus Lamar's stories of his years as a shieldman for the Baron.

The food and drink at the end is varied and a cut above what can be found elsewhere, but the kitchen does not rise to the occasion. They find ways to take fine food and turn it into just above-average fare. This stretching of the larder would be noticed elsewhere, but nobody comes for the food or drink.

The atmosphere is the best in town. In addition to the high-ranking servants and court officials that frequent the tavern, the building itself is constructed from woods bought from caravans from the south. Rich red whorlwoods are accented with expensive tapestries and hangings. Straw does not cover the floor, but a thick layer of rugs. Rowdy patrons are quickly removed lending the tavern a reserved and dignified clientele.

Although the building rises to three stories in its northeast corner, most of the building is only two stories tall. The bottom floor is divided into three areas. The largest is a common hall, the next is a small kitchen, and the last is a private room. The room is rented out by whatever servant wishes to use it for meetings with clients.

Inside stairs provide access to the second floor. The largest room belongs to Lamar and whatever woman he is keeping at the moment. The other three rooms are said to be storage, but in fact are rooms for rent. It is well known that those seeking a more clandestine meeting with the baron is wise to rent one of these rooms. It is so well known that it is not true, but its does happen from time to time - enough to keep the belief alive.

The third floor is Lamar's private office. He keeps his books, money, and personal items locked behind its heavy wooden trapdoor. Small shuttered windows discourage evening prowlers. The only stairs come up from his bedroom.
