Contacts

Contacts is the ability to find information or things from people.

Social Networks

A character's Contacts skill is dependent upon a character's social networks. Unfamiliar surroundings may raise the difficulty by 4 or more. Each week a character spends building their network in a new area they can reduce the penalty by 1.

Gather Information

This allows a character to answer a question. The base difficulty is based upon where they are searching and what question they are asking. A character may retroactively improve their roll by taking more time. The default time for a simple question is an afternoon. A successful contacts check does not mean the information is correct only that it is the information that the people contact know about the question.

Getting a Tip Off

A character's social networks can often keep a character apprised of the general state of things, which can act as a social awareness.

Rumors

Social networks cannot only gather in information, but in fact can circulate information. A simple statement can be handled through a declaration, while more complicate rumors require a higher difficulty to cover up the originator of the rumor.
