Goblin

This actually coveres a great deal of different races, but only two are really considered good candidates for players. The rest have the problem that they are too stupid, violent, or anti-social to work well in a group of players. In all cultures but their own goblins are outsiders, rarely doing more than the most menial of tasks for whatever food and goods they can use to barter. Goblin

Goblins can actually live up to thirty years; although rare is the goblin that survives past their mid-twenties. Born into a litter of 8-12 goblins, only the strongest 4 or so will survive past their first year. This is because a female golbin only has two teats and those goblin babies that get the most milk will be better positioned to hunt and survive on their own after they are weaned at ten months. By the middle of their second year a goblin has fully matured.

Goblin females have been known to have two litters a year during difficult times; although a more common occurance is one litter every other year. While many people have assumed the goblins are more bestial because alpha males keep large harems of female, the exact opposite is true. The opposite is true, it is the females whose superior intelligence and insight helps them choose a strong and powerful male to protect them and their babies. Goblin societies rise and fall on the strength of one alpha male and the females that support him for their own benefit. This is supported by the fact that 70% of all births are female, which keeps the rogue male population small. Hobgoblin

Originally thought to be a mating between an orc and a goblin, hobgoblins are actually a more evolved type of goblin. Most hobgoblins are born in a goblin litter, but they are bigger and mature faster than their goblin siblings which makes their survival nearly assured compared to a goblin. While they could easily serve as alpha males for a goblin tribe, hobgoblins actually seek out other hobgoblins and form their own society. Because goblinoids all have an exceptional sense of smell most scholars predict hobgoblins find each other by scent — for they have been known to travel months to reach a hobgoblin tribe.

These tribes mimic many primitive human tribes in that they are ruled by a council made up of the oldest and wisest hobgoblins in the tribe. This council selects a strong leader to lead the tribe during war, which happens often because hobgoblins have little skill in craftsmanship. Some hobgoblins have shown a natural affinity for magic dealing with the earth and the plants and animals that inhabit the world.
