Blackhouse

Once thought to be haunted, Blackhouse is a three-story stone building with a marble additions located in the Blackhouse District or Fountainhead. For thousands of years Warden, an Ash Hunter, was bound inside the house slowly consuming the world outside the house to ash.

Layout

The house is a large and grand three-story structure fashioned completely from well-fitted cut stone. White marble with black veins is used tastefully as arch-stones, columns, and sills. In its current shape the entirety of the building is covered with a layer of ash. The second floor overhangs the first floor in both the front, while the third floor only consists of two small rooms. The roof consists of slate tiles and have multiple chimney stacks.

Cellar

The cellar consists of two separate chambers not accessible via the other. The largest chamber is accessed from a hatchway from the kitchen. Before Warden arrived this chamber was used for storing foodstuffs and drink, now it is full to the brim with ash. The second chamber is located from a small door under the stairs. This room is narrow and roughly cut. There is a tunnel that continues down until it reaches the caverns beneath the city.

Ground Floor

The ground floor is roughly in the shape of an 'L' with the base of the short leg facing the front door. The level is dominated by a great hall. To the right of the hall is a small antechamber with stairs to the upper floors. Beyond the antechamber is drawing room and dining room. To the left of the hall is a small library and the kitchens. The kitchen has a stone hearth with a chimney that pipes heat upstairs and smoke outside. A small private hallway connects from the kitchen to the dining room.

A small garden stretches from the inside of the long leg to the edge of the house.

Second Floor

The second floor is rectangular and overhangs the ground floor. Four marble pillars hold up the overhang. This floor has a four bedrooms, only the largest bedroom is heated from the kitchen.

Third Floor

The third floor contains only the solar (Lord and Lady's bedroom) and a small private study. These floors comprise less than half the space used on the floor below.

History

During the Sorcerers Kingdom this house was used by Highmagus Nadezhda and her husband Magus Timofei. Although the house was small in scale for their lofty position it was fashioned from stone Nadezhda pulled from the earth. The beauty and exquisite craftsmanship of the house was a testament to her skill. She only lived in this house for less than a decade because it was coveted by Grandmagus Ska'velki. The Grandmagus had both of them murdered and their staff blamed for it. The bodies of the staff were still being crucified on the front columns when the Grandmagus moved in.

Ska'velki did not live long in the house and within the year killed himself. He complained of nightmares and haunted spirits, demons and devils that still roamed the house from Magus Timofei's mad experiments.

The house stayed unoccupied, except for someone occasionally taking shelter, until the fall of the Sorcerers Kingdom. When the kingdom fell the house was lifted up on the large shelf of rock that thrust from the earth.

Legacy of Marak

In the Legacy of Marak campaign Warden was freed from this house and reunited with his three ash hounds. He has swept all of the nearby ash in side the house and as now taken up semi-permanent residence.
