The Iron Road is the second longest land trade road on the continent of Miran. It runs from the eastern coast to the Caragan Sea.
The Iron Road passes through the Anor Mountains through the Bitter Pass. Originally named for the wide range of spices and aromatics that Turanian traders took to western markets - the name has struck true for the number of deaths in the pass. The pass is narrow and sharp ledges slow down wagons as they wind their way through the mountains. Caravans travel in strength with many armed guards.
Several attempts have been made to establish fortified inns along the pass, but each one has been destroyed within a few years.
Much of the road passes just north of the territory claimed as Kith or within lands claimed by the kithkin depending on the season. Most caravans have little trouble passing safely through if they offer small gifts or platitudes to any stalking party they come across. Those that avoid these common courtesies met with near constant harassment.
The road passes south of the large fortified town built by the Turanians during their war with Irill. The town guards patrol the road and occasionally collect a small tax from caravans traveling west to east, but almost never from those traveling east to west.
