Tharen Starlight

Short for an elf, Tharen barely stands over five feet tall. She typically keeps her blazing red hair tied back and cut mid-length. With the slight body of an elf, she could pass for a human child — and upon some occasions people have mistaken her for such.

Her personality is definitely a match for her hair — fiery. She has a ready wit, sharp tongue, and list of insults that can stretch the continent. Beneath her personality is a rough edge that years of nobility has not worn off. She makes a great effort to stop those people that harm those that cannot defend themselves.

Early Life

Fleeing a broken home Tharen, a short red-haired elven girl, took to the streets of Celinus — the capital city of the Kingdom of Dakar. She lived as a beggar, thief, and cut purse for several years; until she made the mistake of catching the attention of a bard named Prince Baldar. He took the girl in to his performing company, and the group raised her. Years later, she joined with others to create Phoenix Force, a Dakarian mercenary company.

During this time a elven artifact was passed down to her and she became one of the Maiden Archers. She could not turn down such a great honor, but during the whole time, she felt uncomfortable in the service. Finally, after carrying it for about ten years, she rescinded the bow and passed it on to another, something that is unheard of among the ranks of the Maiden Archers and caused quite a rift when she suggested it.

Tharen doesn't talk much about her past before joining the Five Stars. She dimly remembers her mother, a timid elf dominated by a bully who seemed to enjoy beating her and Tharen. Tharen started to delay coming home later and later, until finally one night she slept in a pile of rags in a warren somewhere, and found that she was no colder or hungrier than normal. So, after that, she simply ceased to go home any more. She eventually ran with the street children, stealing and begging to get by. Since elf children were rare in Dakar, she stood out, but her mother never sought her out. Eventually, she picked the pocket of the self-titled bard Prince Baldar. He was intrigued by the waif, and tracked her down. He lulled the half wild child into a calm state, and brought her back to his entertainment troupe. There was a married couple, Shin and Krill. Shin, who had lost children of her own years before, became very attached to the child. Tharen also came to enjoy a fond relationship with Braun, the strong man, often treating him like an elder brother and favorite climbing post. She didn't get on so well with the dancer, xxxx, but it was a very happy time in her life. She was trained to be a contortionist and acrobat. This was the life for her, even when the troupe left Dakar to go elsewhere during the summer. Eventually, her troupe was imprisoned by the Dakarian Guard, and she joined Phoenix Force to gain a token from the King of Dakar to free her troupe.

Dark Elves

It was during an adventure with phoenix_force that took Tharen to the new homeland of the Dark Elves. It was there that she found that Mardac had ensnared Rinadal. With the help of her friends she feed him from his prison and Rinadal returned the favor by helping them get home.

Once back upon Miranda, Rinadal convinced Tharen to allow him to be her patron at court. While he had been away for a long time, he assured her that he would keep her name before the court on matters important to her. Tharen did not understand fully what that meant, but she would in time.

Future Plans

In recent years, she has undertaken the construction of a large entertainers guildhouse in Celinus. In truth, the house serves as a way to get her trained spies into the most powerful courts in Dakar. She hires trained spies to watch, listen, and gather any data on the power Irillian Thieves Guild.

Tharen, and her most trusted lieutenants, go over this information looking for any pattern of movement by the guild north. Over the last years she has stopped two major attempts, and blunted a score of minor attempts. While this may be causing Shadowhawk some problems, the guild has not attempted a single assassination against Tharen — yet.

Tharen has also managed to become one of the few followers of the newest elven patron, Arrandel, Patron of Travel and New Beginnings. Arrendel has pressured her into the duties of spreading his word, and she is once again finding a heavy yoke of obligation.
