Thaogut

Thaogut loves to barter favors for goods from his chest and always finds people willing. His selling point is that You get what you need, but not what you want. Exactly what the person needs is not up for Thaogut to decide, but is instead the chest itself. How the chest decides what the person needs seems bizarre and random at time, but it is always useful in the span of time. Once opened the chest can draw things from across time and throughout the entirety of the Shadow Realms.

Thaogut and his chest are one in the same. One cannot leave the other. Anyone attempting to harm either of them or separate them will find that a great many very powerful beings are obligated to help Thaogut. There is an exception for children. Thaogut loves children for their wonder and exploration. His chest never gives a child anything else but joy - treats and never tricks.

Thaogut is a fae gnome and like all such creatures is fascinated by the unknown. He is always looking for what is over the horizon and new experiences. At one some place he found himself obligated to a very dark and very powerful fae lord. To fulfill this obligation he was given The Chest. Thaogut was told that by taking on this obligation it was the only way short of death to rid himself of the chest. It turns out the fae lord did not understand The Chest and when the bond was passed to Thaogut, The Chest immediately swallowed the fae lord. What happened to the fae lord is best not thought about too long.

Thaogut has no intention of every letting The Chest go from his sight. He loves The Chest and it has responded this his positive attention.

The Chest is an ancient thing believed to have been created by some long forgotten fae or ancient deity. It is a gateway of sorts or even possibly a wish-fulfillment portal. What exactly it is is unknown, but it has been in the possession of many people and entities throughout its existence. The Chest can find anything for its owner either by retrieving items or opening portals and allowing anything to be retrieved. The chest is not exactly all-powerful, but it exists on a level akin to gods and devils.

The Chest forms a symbiotic relationship with its current owner. The exact parameters of this relationship is dependent upon the bond forged. This bond cannot be severed until the death of one of the parties - as The Chest is still alive it has always been its “owner” that has perished, typically horribly. Once bonded the owner cannot leave the presence of The Chest. How far they can go depends on how long they have been its owner and their personal power. A strong fae might be able to get a days walk from it, but any mortal would have to be in near constant contact.
