Lord Nikolaos

Lord Nikolaos, first name unknown to anyone living, is a man of wealth and means. The Nikolaos family dates back to the original settlements by the Irillians during the time of the Holy Irillian Empire. his ancestors wisely switched sides as the empire fell and so secured the future of their family. Lord Nikolaos is the last direct descendant born of the eldest son or daughter. His father considered his birth a failure as Lord Nikoloas has no skill with magic.

Unknown to any, but those on the inner circle of the vulfgrau_trading_house, he is one of highest ranking members of the house. He has provided most of the financial backing that allowed the house to re-establish itself with new caravans and ships.

His mother, a powerful magician and the last of the Nikolaos line, married Ciro late in her life. The pregnancy was difficult, but when Lord Nikolaos was born it was hailed as a miracle. That miracle would turn to ash when his mother declared that her son had no talent for the magical arts. This meant that Mago Alba would be the last of the true lineage - none would inherit her title when she died. His father drank himself into a stupor and within a few years drank himself to death.

The tradition of the Nikolaos family was nto to give the child a name until their magic was strong. Since his father refused to allow his son to carry his name - Lord Nikolaos never received a proper name.

Lord Nikolaos had a very difficult childhood. He would inherit the wealth and property of his ancestors, but in the eyes of their extended family he was never worthy. His mother blamed herself for having a child so late in her life, but although she tried to conceive earlier she was never able to conceive.

When he turned twelve (12) things changed around the house. His father was dead several years and his mother's attitude changed. She began schooling him in the arts and learning of masters. He would never have the magic of his birthright, but he would at least understand what it would have granted him. She hoped that in time he might have a child and that child would inherit the Nikolaos gift.

Lord Nikolaos' mother died when he was twenty-five (25). Although his training was incomplete he understood the essential Laws of Magic. For the next decades he proved himself a skilled businessman and grew the wealth of the family. Much of this wealth he spread among his “cousins”, “aunts”, and “uncles” that once despised the name he carried.

When the opportunity presented itself he purchased the charter of the Vulfgrau Trading House. Although the house only existed in name, they did have treaties and grants with enough people to become prosperous once again. Several friends he made during the previous years joined him in purchasing the grant and all of its remaining assets. While the outward plan was to re-vitalize the trading house - the plans of this high circle was to overthrow the Kingdom of Dakar.

They did not want a puppet on the thrown, but instead for the kingdom to be thrown into the chaos of civil war. This would have the benefit of stopping their war with the Republic of Irill, but weaken the strong support the throne gives to the temple_of_light. Only the inner circle knows about these true plans.
