Fredda

Fredda is secretly one of the lords_of_water who control the smuggling in the city of Bornheim. She controls her gang and territory through a mechanical turk named Gero that she manipulates through her magic. She is strong enough with illusions and mind tricks to convince those speaking with Gero that he will kill them if they do not bend knee. She has killed several people over the years just to prove that nobody crossed him and lives.

Fredda is very thin and short due to undernourishment during her childhood. She works as a prostitute at the docks, but Gero is her only client. Thus she controls a gang and protects herself using the same trick. She is not smart, but very cleaver and a quick learner. Once she learned the magic she needed to escape her previous life she stopped learning. Magic is a tool for her to gain a better life - a tool to protect herself. She has no interest in learning magic just to learn.

Fredda started as a prostitute when she was fourteen (14) like her mother. She worked the same area in Bornheim and would have lived her life controlled by the same keeper, except that one client that kept returning to her was a wizard. Not one of the great magi of the realm, but a man with some skill. He claimed that she was touched with the same abilities if only she learned about magic. He taught her magic in exchange for free visits whenever he wanted.

She learned the magic of misdirection and illusions, something the wizard prattled on was well-suited to her. As her she gained power she “convinced” her keeper that she was still earning money and paying him - even though she stopped doing either activity. She only performed for the wizard. He was never going to make her a proper wife, but Fredda did not want that life. She enjoyed the Dockside more than a life of lace and sitting. The wizard was not upset when Fredda said that she no longer wanted to trade her favors for his training. She felt that her skills were good enough for what she wanted. The wizard wished her well and they never saw each other again.

To keep all things a secret Fredda invented the role of Gerro - a new bruiser in the city that looked to make of name of himself. With a few shadowed forms, some dead bodies, and nicked purses; the legend of Gerro grew ever upward. In less than a decade she had a hideout, band of cutters and thieves, and even enough claimed territory to be a part of the Right Business on the docks. She found a stone statue sitting on a throne and had it hauled into the hideout. This statue become the physical embodiment of Gerro.

Gerro become one of the Lords of the Water when she kills Engel, one of the previous Lords. She claimed his territory, while relinquishing some of her territory to the other lords as welcoming gifts. She knows how the game is played and she plans to claw her way to the top.
