Berchtwald, Berch to his friends, has owned the Wood River Inn since Y451 AH. It is the only inn in the town of Ulrichstein and Berchtwald pays well for that privilege. His brewing skills are not the best in town, but he does a strong cider during the winter that sells well. As traders pass through town he will often purchase wine and ales then recask them to sell to the next caravan.

Berch is a friendly and jovial man to those spending coin at the inn or those convincing others to spend. He tolerates not fighting and like most westerners he can settle things for himself or possibly his son. The strong muscle of his youth has given way to softer flesh, still he can bash heads together when necessary. His laugh can fill the room when he is in the mood, but when angered his scowl can crack iron.
