River Guard

The River Guard is considered an Elite unit commanded by the Temple of Luminous Kaskade and drawn from religious mercenaries and soldiers.

In the Revolution arc of the Dakarian Insurrection campaign the River Guard held one of the three gates into the city. The River Gate is considered more vulnerable as it must allow the river to pass through. In the face of countless attacks the soldiers never broke. Twice the Reavers gained the wall, but each time they were repulsed.

Command of the River Guard is held by a single Captain who reports to both the Knight-Commander of the City Guard and the Chosen of the Night Tide. While this might seem confusing in most matters the Captain strictly follows the directions of the Temple of Luminous Kaskade.

The guard has three Sergeants each commanding one of the watches. Each watch stands for eight hours at the gate, except during a high holiday when only a half-watch stands guard while the rest of the guard patrols the river in their dress uniform.
