Red Serpents

The Red Serpents were one of the short-lived Irillian Mercenary Companies that rose during the Republican years. They met their defeat when facing Raganoth, the great dragon of Split Mountain. During the time they were active they gained a reputation for surviving two expeditions into the Black Forest.

Their standard is a a red serpent wrapped around a golden rod on a black field.

    • Lytle Merriton
    • Paulos of Theaton
  • Disbanded: 442 AH
  • Area Served: Western Realms
  • Number: 0 (23 during its last battle)

Founded in 428 AH by Lytle and Paulos the Red Serpents registered their banner in the Republic of Irill. The republic was open to mercenary companies and treated them in many ways to the equivalent of Dakarian Knightly Orders.

During Harvest of 442 the Red Serpents embarked on a quest to kill Raganoth, a great dragon that had been destroying villages in eastern Krandryia. What they lacked in numbers they made up in experience, unfortunately none of it spent fighting dragons. They had fought several wyverns in the Anor Mountains, but it was far worse facing a full-blooded dragon. Everyone was killed during the battle except Mandross.

Mandross never restarted the company and its legend died.

Leadership

Lytle, being the more natural leader of the two founders, ran the company. He was in charge of recruiting new members and hunting down jobs. Paulos was the conscious of the company and only really spoke up with Lytle had promised too much for too little. Lytle was obsessed with the tales of the Red Serpents that would be sung by the bards.
