Order of the Black Sword

The Most Honorable Order of the Black Sword is an order of chivalry associated with the Kingdom of Dakar. The order was founded by King Reiner III of Dakar. Membership in the order is limited to sixteen (16) knights, the Sovereign of Dakar, and Priest of the Temple of Light.

King Reiner III created the knightly order to serve as his personal armsmen and defend the crown from all others. He saw the effects his father's, King Reiner II, dotage had on the kingdom. He surrounded himself with sycophants and political malcontents, who led the kingdom into a nearly disastrous war. The knights of the order answer only to the sovereign and are tasked with stopping him if necessary.

There are never any more than sixteen knights in the order. Should a vacancy occur because of death or dismissal it can only be filled by a unanimous vote of all knights. The current sovereign and priest may advise and put forward a candidate, but only the knights of the order may grant entrance into this prestigious order.

The knights much remain bachelors as long as they remain among the sixteen.

A knight can only be dismissed by a unanimous vote among the other knights, plus the acceptance of both the sovereign and the priest. A knight of the order may not challenge another brother-knight to mortal combat. There is no restriction on the knights engaging in tournaments or
