Creation

The oral history of the Gothar is long and quite varied, but most say that the Gothar came to this land because of a vision - a vision so powerful that all Gothar saw it. Most stories say the vision was of a black hawk so large its wings blotted the sun riding upon the back of a bear with fur as white as new fallen snow. The vision commanded the people to follow and by the tens of thousands they did far to the north and east until they reached the shore of the White Sea.

The sea had been frozen over by Néébeka who made her home upon that sheet of ice. Serving her were giants of stone and ice who hunted and killed any men they could catch. When the Gothar reached the shoreline the giants saw them and attacked. The battle was fierce and lasted many days, but the hawk and bear just stood by and watched Néébeka's nest.

On the sixth day Néébeka rose out of her nest with a terrible roar and rose into the sky, intent upon eating the survivors. Instead the hawk flew into the air and attacked Néébeka, tearing off her wings and casting her unto the ice. The ice began to crack as the great bear charged the Néébeka and after a brief struggle grasped her neck in its mouth. All of the ice upon the White Sea collapsed
