Gold Diggers

After the mess that ended my previous campaign I tried to pick back up with a different group. The system was still HERO4, but the focus would be on more simple profit-orientated adventures. Sure, I could never run a game without some treachory and back-end plots — but I vowed to make this a more simple campaign. To drive the campaign I had Leescrag setup a Stock Company financed by a family friend name Dangar Stoutoak. Dangar got 51% of the company stock in exchange to financing the venture. As the company made profit a certain percentage of the shares would revert to Leescrag's control. After Dangar made 10 times his investment any remaining stock would be transferred to Leescrag. Leescrag then gave shares in the company to his companions — as well as specific exploration shares.

The problem was that my feet were still a bit jittery because of the previous problems and two of the players in the game really dislike the HERO system. Added to that I was becoming more jaded with the system as time moved on and you can already see where this was heading. While the players I had worked well together their character's never really jelled. Still, it ran for sometime and a majority of the adventures were enjoyable.

This group consisted of the same players as the original Phoenix Force, but this time they were running new characters. The requirements were that the characters had to have some tie to the original Phoenix Force characters. This gave them a good base from which to launch new adventures. My prime focus was to return to the hard-scrabble roots, but give them a starting boost over the original group and a strong tie to the world. The game officially only ran once as the infrequent gatherings (twice a year) made it very difficult for the players to get into their new characters. Instead, we returned to the original Phoenix Force characters and I worked on tying up their loose plot ends. I still work in these new characters occasionally as background NPCs, but for the most part this is a dead end.
