Noble Metals

While materially gold may be more fashionable among the wealthy, silver is far more popular among the magicians of Miranda. Silver possesses the highest magical conductivity of any of the noble or transition metals. This makes silver the most common metal found on any number of magical devices or used for magical research. While it is possible for a magician to make due with copper, it makes drawing and controlling magic more difficult.

Opposing the noble metals are base metals. Iron, Nickel, Lead, Zinc, Aluminium, Tin, and other more exotic metals are considered base metals. These metals cause disruptions and eddies in the flow of the Shadow Realms over the world. This causes problems for spirits and magicians.

The most common of the Noble Metals.

Platinum Group

The Platinum Group are the most highly sought after noble metals. Typically these metals will be alloyed with the most common noble metals.

  • Platinum
  • Ruthenium
  • Rhodium
  • Palladium
  • Osmium
  • Iridium

It addition to the common alloys found in our world, there are those only found on Miranda.

Seldane

An alloy of Palladium, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Considered the most highly prized alloy by magicians. The exact mix used by any Master of the Forge for the alloy is a closely guarded secret. This is the only metal that is able to contain magic that can truly last the ages. Other metals and alloys twist and warp any magic such that over time spells will unravel.

White Gold

An alloy of Gold, Palladium, and traces of Platinum it is found far more commonly that Seldane. Its magical properties are not as pure, but it is a far easier alloy to forge.

Magesilver

Magesilver is a alloy of silver (93%), copper (4%), and platinum (2%) along with tin and other impurities. It is highly prized by magicians due to its increased hardness over pure silver without any noticeable reduction in its magical properties. There are many variations found in the world, most are too brittle for anything but decorations. For those masters capable of truly working this metal wealth abounds.

This is the most common alloy used by magicians for their best work.

True Silver

There are nearly as many recipes for truesilver as there are masters of the forge in the world - and most of them do not work. For a magician truesilver is so highly sought after that wars have be waged for it. It is not purer silver than Magesilver, but its magical properties are in a higher class. Said to be only the province of the gods.

Electrum

Electrum is a naturally occurring alloy between gold, silver, and other trace metals - often called green gold. The percentages of gold and silver in the alloy varies widely which makes it useful for coinage, but more difficult for magicians. Each item fashioned from Electrum takes longer to attune to one's spirit due to these variances. It is still used because it is cheaper than many silver alloys and its higher percentage of gold means that once attuned it is superior to Bronze and Refined Silver. The alloy is harder and more resilient than gold.

Bronze

The alloy most used by magicians for everyday work. Bronze creates few problems when working around magic and can be purchased anywhere.
