Lom

Lom is tall man with broad shoulders and long golden hair that is usually hanging loosely down to his shoulders. He wears a short tunic tied about the waist with a simple whipcord. His coal black eyes and strong jaw give Lom a severe, but handsome face. In his right hand he is usually carrying a large blazing sphere or a fiery mace, while he uses his left to guide hiss six great steeds that pull his fiery chariot across the sky, which people call the sun.

Lom is also the gatekeeper to Godshome where the gods reside and serves as the judge over Byrne's laws. Known for his strong sense of justice and knowledge of the law, Lom is the god many worshippers often turn to when seeking an end to an injustice. His clerics are often called in to meditate disputes and many rulers seek them for their knowledge of the more obscure local laws.

With the exception of Vayne, the clerics of Lom are the most martial of the gods. They are expected to maintain themselves, their temple, a library, and a full set of arms with which to defend themselves. They are not allowed to take up arms against a just law, but must take up arms against an unjust law. This has brought the temple to conflict with the local lords on many occasions and in some places open hostility exists between the temple and the ruling lord. However, because the worship of Lom is so strong among the commoners only the most powerful lords can afford an open war with the temple.

Temples

Lom's temples are not grand affairs cluttered with columns or large alters. Instead, they tend to be simple structures filled with books and small rooms where clerics can consul people that come seeking their aid. Because he is the gatekeeper, most of his temples reflect that by being small fortresses in their own right. Many have their own outer curtain wall, firing slits, and even large gatehouses.

Symbology

Lom is represented by the brilliance of the sun, justice, and the judge. His banner is usually worked with a golden disk upon a blue field, while noble followers favor a silver mace encricled by a black crown upon a red field. More powerful nobles use a green or golden crown to signify their rank or surround the mace with black stars.

Worshippers

Worship of Lom is very strong among the commoners that work the field, the merchants sell the goods, and the craftsmen tending their shops. All people that seek a just and good life flock to Lom. Because the clerics of Lom are well educated and knowledgeable about the law, non-knightly nobles will often seek a cleric of Lom to settle a dispute rather that seek single-combat or a private war. This broad base of support has made the temple of Lom very powerful and wealthy.

Order of Saint Helga the Golden

This order is open to women that wish to take up arms in the name Lom. Each woman that joins will give an oath to forgo children, marriage, and family in the name of the sisterhood. Those members that do become pregnant leave their children in the temple where they are fostered out — the woman can never again have contact with her children. It is a rigorous and often difficult life as few men seem accepting of a woman taking up arms; however, so strong is the legend of Helga the Golden that she was not only sainted but those women that follow in her footsteps are martyrs for giving up home and family for the good of all.

Order of Justiclars

This order exists inside of the main religious organization. It is a fighting order of knights dedicated to fighting for just cause. Most of the knights are expected to travel the lands and right the wrongs that they see. This can bring them into conflict with local lords or other temples. In these cases they are to discharge their duty and correct the wrong or die trying. Only twice in the organization's history has the Order of Justiclars issued a Call to Arms. In both of these cases they mustered over a thousands knights for the cause of justice.

Many of the large temples have chapter houses within their temple or a nearby house. These chapters allow a Justiclar to seek assistance, relax, tend to their gear, and socialize with other members. In those cases where the temple does not support a chapter house, the temple will often simply provide services to any knights of the order that are in town.
