Eye of the Magi

Eye of the Magi is a comet that is the brightest and largest comet seen from the world in recorded history. Created by the Magi when they left the world it returns to the world every 1700-21500 years. While it is visible to the eye for approximately sixteen (16) months, its effect on the world is measured in decades. The effect on the world during this time is often catastrophic.

When the comet appears it begins and ends as a dull yellow star with a white tail. For several months around its peak visibility the twin tails of Junniloupe can be clearly seen. The long tail following behind is yellowish-white and always visible. The twinned tail is only visible as the comet makes it closest approach. During this time the head becomes a brilliant red and a second blue-white tail flashes above other tail.

The comet was created by combined efforts of The Magi before their exodus from this world. They used fragments from the Black Gates that had been destroyed along with the body of Junniloupe, the twinned dragon.

The comet has a powerful effect upon the natural flow of power from the Shadow Realms on Miranda. With the destruction of the Black Gates the chaotic flow of magic across the world returned to its a more sedate flow. Even before the comet is visible to the eye its core has affected the world. Instead of peaks and ebbs with the natural cycle of the world the strength of the Shadow Realms will peak as the world turns towards the comet. This effect can come about years before the comet is seen and last for several years after. The duration of the effect averages eleven (11) years.
