Dwarven Forges

The Dwarven Forges built deep beneath the earth are modeled after the lost Living Forge fashioned by the Earthmother. The relationship is the same as a torch to the sun, they both give off heat and light but one is a pale comparison to the other. These forges are considered sacred temples for the dwarves, the last remaining places where they can still hear the words of their creator.

A dwarven clan is recognized by its forge. They are the cultural center of the clan.

The Great Forges

The greatest forges are the most ancient ones, held by the largest clans, that are still operating. These are not one forge, but in fact a city full of forges, smithies, casting rooms, and fire stations. The largest one still in continuous operation is located deep beneath Stoneheart Hold.

Cold Forges

There are forges that have been abandoned They have grown cold and dark over the centuries. Known to be haunted by the restless spirits of the dwarves who toiled at them, their clans destroyed and survivors scattered to the winds. A clan whose forge has grown cold must see to the utter destruction of their forge before a new one can be constructed. It is considered proper for parts of the old forge to be used in the new.

Clan Forges

These much smaller forges often just a foundry and smithy. It is where the smaller clans gather for their moot. These smaller clans are typically led by a single Jarl who dispenses justice during the moot. For a clan and its forge to be recognized it must have both a foundry and smithy. It must take the bounty of the earth and shape it. The first thing created is the blessing of the Earthmother and is considered a sacred sign.
