Age of Dragons

The Age of Dragons lasted about 350 million years and was the time on Miranda when the great reptiles ruled the world.

Dragon Age

In the shallow seas of the world the first fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammal-like reptiles. The planet has not stabilized and storms from the Shadow Realms wreck havoc on the land. The Heart of Mir still beats strong threatening to destroy the prison that holds its power. Where its heart exploded in fountains of blood spring great dragons. The gods could not fight the dragons without coming to the world, which in turn would further destabilize it.

The gods led the first great extinction of life on the world.

Earth Gods

All would have been lost is not for those gods willing to sacrifice themselves to save the Earthmother. These Earth gods gave up their divinity to stay forever on the world. In time they would be called the Fallen Gods, but at this time they were the heroes who saved the world. They destroyed, buried, or chained all of the dragons until Mir's heart began to beat slower.

Reptile Age

With the dragons killed or buried their descendants ruled the world. While the Earthmother and Earth Gods slumbered a new breed of reptiles roamed the earth. These were not the children of Mir, but they were born in her likeness. Titanic reptiles walked the earth and killed or drove off all others. These great monsters controlled the land, sea, and even the skies.

As they evolved some took on the forms of lesser dragons. These dragon-kind would drink from the hidden pools of Mir's blood still on the surface and so began the process anew. When their power became so great they threatened to tear the prison asunder the Earthmother woke the gods from their slumber and urged them to war again.

These lesser dragons would have been easily dispatched by the gods before their slumber, but much of their power had been lost to the earth. Many of the first Earth Gods perished, but enough survived to drive the lesser dragons into extinction; along with a great number of other creatures.

The second great extinction of life on the world - once again led by the gods.

Mammal Age

The few survivors of the second great extinction where those creatures too small to be noticed by the Earth Gods. The first mammals, turtles, lizards, snakes, and birds. The surface of the world was over 90% water high in sulfur and the air thick with carbon-dioxide from the massive volcanic eruptions and gas vents. Life on the world existed only in the small valleys where the first broad-leafed plants and flowering trees grew.

Power of the Shadow Realms was limited to these areas and these were the limits of life. Most of the world was uninhabitable to all life. The first creatures born of this magic walked the earth. These unique creatures would spawn countless others. Great Sphinx, The powerful Gryphon, The Night Serpent, The Devourer, The King of Birds, and the Tuluut. Each of these creatures stood watch over the last place where life survived on the world.

The Age of Dragons ended with a cataclysm so powerful that over 82% of all life on the world perished.
