Vampire

A Vampire is a powerful undead creature that survives by feeding on the “life force” (blood) of their victims. As long as a vampire continues to feed they will continue to “live” - replenishing their body with the life force taken from their victim. Most vampire feed by sucking the blood through their mouth or a hollow tongue. Many vampires have developed saliva that with a narcotic or anesthesia effect.

Regardless of the type of vampire, they will look very much as they did during their life. The more powerful a vampire becomes the more they will appear as they were at their prime. The power a vampire gains by draining the blood of their victims keeps them virile and strong. A vampire can be created two different ways, By Darkness or By Blood.

By Darkness

A vampire created by a vampyre is truly a free being, beholden to none. They can easily cross holy/sanctified ground as their very existence does not repel creation. What they cannot abide is the sun. The more powerful they become the less tolerant the become of the light. When young they can travel openly on cloudy days, but when they reach the nadir of their power they are forced to take refuge underground as even the light of a dim moon is painful.

These vampires have nearly full control of their outer forms and often will change into a bat, rat, wolf, or even a cloud of smoke as needed. The limitations of their physical form is only a limitation of their power. As their power grows, the cohesive nature of their physical form diminishes.

Vampires created this way can often live for several centuries before their body is eaten alive by their own power - they become a semi-sentient darkness. These clouds will become hunted by Dark Vampires seeking to gain their power.

By Blood

A vampire can give back the blood they drained from their victims instead of using it to sustain themselves. If their victim survives they will become a vampire. These vampires are an abomination before the creation and cannot step foot on holy/sanctified ground nor abide the sight of holy symbolism brandished with true faith. As these vampire grow old and powerful even looking upon an act of faith is enough to harm them.

These vampires are not free, instead they are beholden by blood to the one who created them. This is not a feudal obligation, but a blood bond forcing them to serve their master. Each subservient vampire created gives a measure of their power to their master. This increases the personal power of the master vampire. However, the more vampire created the greater possibility they will overthrow their master and free themselves. A vampire who serves another cannot create a vampire to serve themselves, the only path to power is to kill their master.

A vampire created this way will live as long as they can stave off madness. The mortal spirit is not suited to living off the spirit of others. Along with the blood a vampire will carry along small fragments of their victims. These fragments will become memories of things that never existed for them - a patchwork of a multitude of lives over-shadowing their own. In time their mind and spirit will shatter and will descend into madness.
