Largest Humanoids on Miranda

The very first giants were created by the devils to aid them in their war with the gods during the Age of the Gods. When the devils and their demonic army were forces back into the Infernal Realms the giants, like the rest of the diabolical races were driven into the darkness and far-away lands.

Giants typically are 15' to 30' tall humanoids with broad muscular builds. They will grow throughout their lives, with the most ancient giants towering nearly 400 feet. They can have almost any color of hair; although dark shades tend to be the most common.

Their skin coloration ranges from coal black to pale white, with dark eyes. It is not as pliable as that of humans or elves, being thicker and harder to the point it feels rock-like. The larger the giant the less pliable their skin. The largest giants appear more like living mountains that their other kin, while the ogres are most human-like.

Giants are a very long lived species, with many giants living a thousand years or more. A giant reaches maturity after 50 years, but will only be sexually active for about 200 years. During this time of sexual activity giants will live in small communities. Once a giant is no longer capable of having children, they will leave the community and live the remainder of their lives in solitary.

Once a giant is not longer sexually active their skin with begin to hardened and they will slow down. During this time a giant will spend most of their lives sleeping, waking only to feed and drive off any competitor that wanders into their territory. The older the giant, the more it sleeps and the less it needs to eat. Giants that are 1000 years or more may only wake every 10 years to feed.

The smallest and most numerous species of giant found anywhere on Miranda. Ogres are between 8 and 10 feet in height and can be found in any land environment where there is ample food.

Believed to be the first of the giants and the ones that typically mentioned in song and legend. It is the grund that are considered the only “true giants” that still live on Miranda. As many as 9,000 grund still live on Miranda.

The devils changed some giants to counter the powerful Shadow Magic summoned by the elves. They plucked out a giant's eye and forces its spiritual “third eye” to open. This eye is located in the center of their forehead and is a direct channel to their spirit.

Using their third eye a cyclops can see into the future as well as cast their gaze into any plane in the Shadow Realms. Even more dangerous is a cyclops ability to look upon the spirit of any mortals and wrack it with their power.

The rarest of all giants, so rare they are believed to no longer exist - in fact less than 500 still exist in the world. The Meear live solitary lives in the deepest trenches of the ocean. Unlike other giants, the Meear have gills instead of lungs and bodies capable of withstanding the pressure of living more than a mile under the ocean. The Meear spend the majority of their lives sleeping in the ocean deeps, only waking to feed (once every 5-10 years) and give birth to a single child (once every 500-700 years).

Meear are both male and female, capable of reproducing without another member of their species. A Meear child will take almost a century to fully mature. The Meear have no language or society, living completely solitary lives. If two meear meet they will fight to the death for their own territory.
