Demon

Foot Soldiers of the Infernal Realms

A demon is a creation of the Infernal Realms, given purpose by the un-life wielded by Devils and their ilk. The demonic force created is not able to freely act, but instead limited to the nature it was given when it was created, similar to an angel. It was created to serve a single purpose and while it can be clever and intelligent when following that purpose - it cannot change its true nature.

A demon is able to fully enter the various planes of the Shadow Realms because while their body is made of the Infernal Realms and un-life gave them purposed - they do not possess un-life. This is the same ways that an angel may enter the Shadow Realms as well.

Like angels, Demons must leave behind much of their power if they enter the Shadow Realms, so it would be rare for a Devil to order their demons to do so. Instead, it is preferred that mortals call the demons to them and provide for them a body to house the demonic force. This body can be a mortal form to possess, a spiritual body of magic, or even a barrier that shields a bit of space from the Infernal Realms within the Shadow Realms.

There are not distinct species within demons because their bodies are simply physical manifestations of their will. There is instead a hierarchy within the ranks of demons that largely depends on personal power and diabolical favor. It is possible for a demon to be granted a measure of infernal power and become a fiend, but this happens even less that an angel becoming a godling.

Demon Prince

The most powerful of all demonkind are the princes who rule over vast hordes of demons. Granted a great deal of autonomy, the Demon Princes are more powerful in the Infernal Realms than the fiends that serve their diabolical masters. The Demon Princes constantly war with each for the title Grand Prince, traditionally called the Prince of Darkness. The Prince of Darkness is the Prince of all Demonic Princes and rules with near absolute power over all of demonkind.

Demon Lord

There are a multitude of Demon Lords, each one controlling hundreds if not thousands of Demons. Their control over these demons give them a measure of power, but it is fleeting as the Demon Lords wage war upon each other and other demons. Most of the Demon Lords serve one of the Demon Princes while the rest directly serve one of the servants of the devils.

Demon

They are called by hundreds of different names in the various cultures that they have ravaged. Hellion, Imp, Incubus, Erinye, and many others. Power is the only thing that a demon respects and even that leash is short and easily broken. A demon is drawn to weakness, war, death, lust, wrath, hatred, and destruction. They grow more powerful by consuming spiritual power from mortals. They use this power to subjugate others of their kind and increase their own power.
