Zaber River

The source of the Zaber River is in the Iron Mountains; although the largest source of its water is actually in the many smaller rivers and streams from the Fuldelf Ridge that flow into it. Except for its upper third, the river runs swift making crossing it difficult in many places.

Normally a great deal of river traffic would be found, but the Zaber also has a large number of small waterfalls (1-2m drop) and rocky rapids that make full travel difficult. To allow for travel downstream small “working houses” and hamlets have sprung up near the waterfalls. Flat-bottomed craft and rafts can be pulled out or carried past the waterfall using ropes along with block and tackle.

Wuldar Falls: This waterfall (6m drop) is where the river exits the Iron Mountains.

Mond Lake: This is a series of lakes connected by streams that were once part of the river, but were cut off before humans settled in this area. Most of the lakes are small and shallow (6-8 meters deep) with a rocky bottom that generally lay northeast to southwest about fifty (50) meters from the current flow of the river. The largest and deepest (35 meters deep) of the lakes is the most southern and supports several fishing villages.

Borag's Run: As the river reaches is closest point to the Fuldelf Ridge it runs around a series of large rock outcrops that were said to be result of a giant in the mountains called Borag. Several streams flow into the river just downstream of here making river passage after this area difficult. The road that runs along the river stays far to the west of this area as the place has an evil reputation.

Bornheim

Main Article: Bornheim

The Zaber River flows along the north wall of the city of Bornheim. While the river is normally very difficult to travel - various take-outs along the river ensure that it can still be used for conveying goods. As the river passes by the city it goes through a large drop (3m) in such a short distance the river is little more than a series of small waterfalls surrounded by shallow banks. During the rainy season these banks overflow and if not for a series of sluices in the wall, the north wall would collapse after only a few years.

Jenvelf

Main Article: Jenvelf

This large village is located just upstream of Bornheim and serves as the point where all goods traveling downstream are taken out and transported to Bornheim by land. There are several transportation businesses that have locals scattered in the various villages and towns upstream that buy goods and ship them down the river. The most common method is on log rafts as the rafts can be broken up and sold when they reach Jenvelf.
