Widow's Wake

The Widow's Wake is not just a rundown tavern, it is the most rundown tavern outside of Waterdeep. The tavern is located within sight of the chasm that divides Waterdeep from the rest of the city. The walls are patched, the support columns are patched, the ceiling is patched. There is nothing within the building that has not been patched at least once - often poorly.

They serve a frothy combination of cheap booze and chunks of food called Donagal Chunks. What kind of food? Meat of some variety and grains. It is not good to taste, but the alcohol helps it go down and it is cheap. On the good side it is served with a chunk of bread.

For those not looking for food they have a small collection of kegs - many of which have soured long ago. Keenan purchases kegs that others are dumping out of even those they roll into the streets. He has his boys searching the alleys for supplies.

The Wake is not a big building and most of it is taken up by the tavern room. The kitchen is outside and behind the tavern. There is a single shed by the kitchen that serves as a larder. The second floor is a small room accessible from stairs on the backside of the building. This is the room where Keenan and Frieda live, the boys sleep in the tavern.

Keenan skilled the squatters who were in the building when he arrived. Given the close location to Waterdeep he met with a few of the gang leaders to arrange a truce. None of the staff are actually his sons, just boys he drug off the street and put them to work.

Norack is Keenan's eldest boy and expects to take over after his father dies - hopefully sooner rather than later. He is quite the bruiser, but has the gutter-rat instincts to stay alive. He has made arrangement with Holwen's Boys to kick the other gangs out when he takes over.

Harold is Keenan's middle boy and he rarely visits to help. When he does he is usually fixing what has been broken. His father paid for him to be an apprentice carpenter and he has excelled at this craft.

Dee is the youngest boy Keenan brought to the Wake to work. Barely a scruff of a child his job is to clean up and go through the pockets of the dead or unconscious.

Frieda is the only woman that works at the establishment and cooks all the food and serves all the drinks. She is with Keenan, but he allows his best patrons wide liberties with her. She would like to escape, but the last three times she tried Keenan's boys caught her and she was drug back for a beating. She has accepted her fate and just wishes things would end.

Donagal is not a member of the staff, but he can usually be found in the tavern if he is not walking the city. In the tavern he is a king among his element. He spins tall tales and starts meaningless fights when the mood strikes him. His network of informants know to find him here so there are usually people running in and out.
