Valparia

Valparia is the largest city on the western shore of the Caragan Sea. Its naturally deep harbor provides a strong shelter against the many storms that strike the Caragan Sea. Straddling the largest north-south trade route west of the Caragan it is spoken that if you cannot find something in the markets of Valparia it cannot be bought.

History

Founded by Valpis, a wealthy merchant, during by the First Irillian Empire it eventually came to serve as the largest trading port for goods flowing between Bzynathim, Indus, Ellendar, and Holy Irillian Empire. As the importance of the trading post grew Unthos Maximus named Valpis the Governor of the Denarius providence and allowed him to raise an army for its defense. Given the cost of raising a legion and paying his tribute to the Emperor, the I Valparia only contained six cohorts of light foot and a single cohort auxilia consisting mostly of archers.

Given the size of the providence the I Valparia was divided by cohort along the border with only the 1st to guard the city proper. This decision nearly caused the downfall of the city when the Indus attacked with the help of orc mercenaries. The city was sacked, many of the populace taken as prizes, and the Governor killed.
