The Bear and the Pike

The Bear and the Pike is a tavern built up against the northern wall of The Wash in Bornheim. Once used as a barracks by the Nightwatch before they moved into the North Gatehouse it was purchased from the watch in Y453 by Glorion the Ear. The fortified nature of the tavern makes it one of the safer places in The Wash. Glorion typically has two or three armed toughs around to ensure it stays that way.

Unknown to all but a select few Glorion is a member of Gero's crew. He bought the inn as a cover allowing the crew to enter their lair in the storm drains without being seen.

Although located in the worst district of the city, Glorion still prides himself on serving fair food and drink. It is more expensive that locals can afford and too cheap for others, but for the right type of person the tavern is one of the best meals in the city.

Rooms can be rented, but Glorion is choosy about who he lets stay. Given his secret business he does not want anybody hanging around asking questions. He does rent out enough of the rooms to keep his cover, but only to hose he deems willing. Each of the rooms has two bunk beds and a single chest.

The tavern is two stories tall plus a hidden cellar.

The common room has a central area with tables and benches, a bar near the western way, and a kitchen against the north. A small stone hearth is in the kitchen. On colder days they keep the kitchen door open to heat the common room.

The second floor has two rooms along the west and four bunkrooms to the east. The western rooms are kept for Glorion and his guards, while the eastern bunkrooms are available to rent. While Glorion does not have permit to rent rooms, he pays the Nightwatch to ensure that his guests are not bothered. Those to drunk can sleep it off in the common room for a few minimal price.

The trapdoor to the cellar is located in a closet that is only accessible from the western most room upstairs, the one occupied by the guards. The trapdoor leads to a rung ladder that goes through a walled in section in the kitchen and down to the cellar. Located so close to the sluices the cellar typically has water knee deep, in the wet season it can reach a man's waist. An iron gate divides the cellar from the storm drains.
