From 2728-2753 ae they attempted to conquer the Jugalii, who was once one of their subservient families. A formal peace treaty and exchange of children was agreed to in 2753 that settled all claims. The loss of the islands along with the treasure demands of the Jugalii caused the downfall of the Teralli family.

The Black Century

For nearly two-hundred years after the peace with the Jugalii, the strongest families maneuvered for position. Assassinations, property destruction, and kidnappings became commonplace. The water around their islands turned red with blood a the males turned to piracy and murder to appease the women. It might have continued except for the rape of Yilda Lorentide.

The Lorentide family was not one of the major families that was vying for control, but they had chosen sides. Yilda Lorentide was the head of the family and strongly opposed the violence that had fractured the Teralli. Who was responsible was never determined, but Yilda was kidnapped by another family. The Lorentides put out the expected papers for her ransom as kidnapping was common and acceptable way of dealing between families. When she was found several months later it nearly destroyed all of the families.

Rape is the most reprehensible crime among the hashan. A woman's right, and by extension her family's right, to chose a mate is their highest ideal. A woman's cycle in time with the cycle of the waves proves their divine right. Yilda was found lashed to the deck of a boat. How long she had been used and abused is unknown, but it broke her - and with her all those who heard of what happened.

All families stood aside as the Lorentides became the head of families. The most damning moment had come to a close and all wept for what was lost forever.
